Of all the mass market retailers, our data show that Target has lost the highest number of shoppers from stores to other channels such as Amazon. Now Target is not a terrible retailer. But its days as the poster child of the retail sector have long since faded. A relative lack of newness in stores, a somewhat muddled position when it comes to price and value, and inconsistent execution are all damaging growth. The small details matter.
