Hyfe is recruiting for an important validation study! We are looking for participants based in the US that cough. Details and criteria below: This study will test the performance of a new, investigational device that uses a smartwatch to record the number and pattern of coughs (like a “Fitbit for cough”). We are seeking research participants who have problematic coughs to wear the device and a sound recorder for 24 hours. The research participant will be instructed about the study by phone and be provided the devices through express mail. Those interested in participating in the study will be contacted by phone and the study will be explained to them by study personnel. Consent will be obtained via email using a digitally signable consent form. Participants will be compensated $100 for participation in this study. To be eligible to participate in the study you must: - Be at least 21 years old. - Have a problematic cough. - Be willing to have ambient sounds recorded continuously for 24 hours. - Reside in a domestic environment without unusually high and/or persistent background sound levels. - Be willing to wear two watches during the day and keep them at your bedside (within 3 ft from the mouth) during the night. - Be fluent in English. - Have access to a device with which you can do a video call (computer, tablet or mobile phone) - Have an iPhone on which you can download a companion app to connect to the smartwatch. - Be willing to accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy of the companion app. - Not have an ongoing business/consulting relationship with any company making a cough monitor. - Not have participated in a cough monitor device study in the last 6 months. - Be able to avoid unusually prolonged loud environments for the duration of the 24-hour study period. - Must not have had a significant change in cough medication or treatment in the week preceding the study.

Almost 40% of all Americans suffer from a respiratory condition. That's more than 130 million people. Chances are these numbers will even trend higher ion others parts of the world where things like air quality or smoking would add additional risks. Every single one of them is coughing. And yet, in our clinical standards we have normalized the fallacy that somehow we don't need to quantify this incredibly common and critical symptom. It makes sense. People's subjective perception of their own coughing is unreliable. And using "gold standard" methods to quantify cough - sound recorders that record everything - has been seriously impractical. This is a problem that Hyfe has solved. It is now not only possible but in fact easy and convenient to measure cough in pretty much any setting.
