?? Optimizing Irrigation Through Technological Innovation??? Hydrosat, in partnership with CropX , conducted an innovative study in the Netherlands on variable rate irrigation, funded by the POP3 program (PlattelandsOntwikkelingsProgramma – the third Countryside Development Program) of the Province of Groningen. The study highlights the potential of satellite imagery-based technologies to optimize water management on a regional scale. Let’s take the example of potato irrigation during the dry summer of 2022: ??? Red fields: No irrigation needed, as the root zone retained sufficient moisture. ??? Blue/green fields: Irrigation required, but in variable quantities depending on specific needs. This precise approach reveals significant variability within the same fields, attributed to factors such as terrain elevation, depth to the water table, and proximity to drains. By applying only the amount of water necessary to replenish the root zone (5 mm for some areas, 10 mm for others), water and energy usage can be reduced by?50%, while maintaining yields. This project demonstrates the transformative impact of cutting-edge technologies in driving the transition toward more sustainable and efficient agriculture. A concrete example of how innovation can address tomorrow’s environmental challenges.

Foot on the Ground, Eye in the Sky ??? Combining the precision of on-ground sensors with the power of daily satellite measurements, Hydrosat delivers solutions that capture spatial variability and optimize irrigation. ???This hybrid approach helps agri-businesses better manage their water resources and reduce energy costs, leveraging technologies tailored to today’s challenges. ?? A recent project in the Groningen province, carried out with CropX and funded by POP3 (PlattelandsOntwikkelingsProgramma?– the third Countryside Development Program), demonstrated the effectiveness of these methods on a regional scale. This European subsidy program supports the development of more sustainable and innovative practices in the agricultural sector in the Netherlands. This project was supported by Wim Bastiaanssen's dedication and the Hydrosat team, who remain committed to advancing innovation in precision irrigation.

Foot on the Ground & Eye in the Sky ? Farmers and agencies are catching up digital technologies, especially when they are in a situation with limited water sources and high energy costs. Various stories go around on the preferred source of information. Field sensors can be great if properly installed and calibrated. Satellite measurements are becoming accurate. Certain programs promote large scale field measurements. Other programs offer sensorless solutions as a basis for upscaling. We believe that it is always good to have some anchor points on the ground, and use daily satellite measurements for capturing the spatial variability. This is also the conclusion from a recent POP-funded Geo-Irrigation study in Groningen that Hydrosat executed with CropX.

???? Hydrosat on a Mission in Mexico: Paving the Way for Sustainable and Innovative Water Management in Agriculture??? Our very own Wim Bastiaanssen and Emilio Quintana Molina, together with local partners, recently had the opportunity to meet with key government agencies in Mexico: SADER (Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development) and Conagua (Comisión Nacional del Agua) Mexico is facing a critical time regarding water availability for food production, with increasingly limited resources in agricultural areas. Recognizing this challenge, the Mexican government is focusing on effective irrigation management and infrastructure modernization to boost productivity in irrigation districts. Hydrosat’s solution helps increase crop yields and improve water productivity through more efficient operations—in other words, more "crop per drop." Our IrriWatch platform (pictured) is specifically designed to tackle global water challenges and optimize the use of this precious resource in high-demand areas. This growing interest in Hydrosat marks the beginning of sustainable partnerships in Latin American, building a more resilient and equitable future in water management. Together, let’s turn every drop into an opportunity for lasting impact.

?? ???? This month, Hydrosat had the honor of showcasing our advanced IrriWatch platform in Mexico, a powerful tool for precision irrigation and agricultural management. Kicking off the IX National and II International Congress on Irrigation, Drainage, and Biosystems organized by the Mexican College of Irrigation Engineers (COMEII) in Texcoco, Mexico, Wim Bastiaanssen opened discussions on using IrriWatch to drive smarter water use in agriculture. The event brought together irrigation experts from across Latin America, uniting voices around sustainable farming solutions. Meanwhile, Emilio Quintana Molina represented Hydrosat at the II Congress of Sugarcane Dialogues in Ciudad Valles, where the region's top sugarcane producers convened. Emilio highlighted IrriWatch’s potential as an advisory platform for optimizing irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting, directly benefiting Mexico’s sugar industry. ?? ?? Together, these events underscored Hydrosat’s critical role in supporting decision-making for growers in Latin America, demonstrating how data-driven insights can transform agricultural productivity in water-stressed regions.
