A recent study published in the Journal of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology found that Hydritreat 2216, a powerful American-made antimicrobial, can enhance sugar yields by providing broad-spectrum microbial inhibition. Hydritreat 2216 targets gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as wild yeast, whereas hops acid is only effective against gram-positive bacteria. Hydritreat 2216 is also more potent, requiring lower concentrations than sodium hypochlorite (bleach) and hops acid. Unlike bleach, which can produce carcinogenic byproducts, Hydritreat 2216 breaks down into water and vinegar.
