Congratulations to Debra Coufal, a Starbucks barista and department manager at the Columbus, Nebraska, Hy-Vee since 2006, is one of Hy-Vee's 2024 winners of the Legendary Customer Service Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in providing service that exceeds customers’ expectations. Only 13 winners were selected from among more than 75,000 Hy-Vee employees across eight states, and were nominated by their coworkers and customers.

September is National Family Meals Month! Since 2014, Hy-Vee has supported FMI- The Food Industry Association in this initiative to provide resources to help families come together during mealtime. This year, Hy-Vee is adding fun to family meals with a friendly competition at select stores in the eight-state region, as well as a video series featuring families discussing the importance of mealtime in different cultures. This week we joined our partners Alliant Energy and Iowa State University to celebrate the opening of our Chariton Solar Field, located just north of our Chariton Distribution Center.?This project, hosted on Hy-Vee property, will generate enough energy to power more than 350 homes each year. Additionally, Iowa State University researchers will be gathering data on the best mix of plants to grow on the solar field to attract pollinators and learning more about what fruits and vegetables can be grown between the rows of solar panels.

Last week, the?World Food Prize Foundation?gathered more than 400 Iowans from across the state to share their ideas on how we all work together to fight hunger. Hy-Vee was honored to be featured with our partners?Hormel Foods?and?Food Bank of Iowa?on a panel titled "From Surplus to Security: Ensuring Food Reaches Those in Need," discussing how food retailers and suppliers can better work together to help Iowans fighting food insecurity.

In honor of National Lemonade Month in August, Hy-Vee is partnering with Milo's Tea Company, Inc. for their “Share the Lemonade Love” campaign! Through August, 5% of all purchases of Milo’s Lemonade will go towards Hy-Vee and Feeding America's 100 Million Meals Challenge. Enjoy the classic summer beverage and help support those fighting food insecurity across the Midwest. Look out for Lemonade Love Selfie Stands in select markets to show your love while helping those in need.

July is Disability Pride Month, dedicated to promoting awareness, acceptance, and empowerment of people with disabilities. Hy-Vee is proud to support our helpful smiles of all abilities, and this month more than 40 Hy-Vee locations in Eastern Iowa will sell pineapples to benefit Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-round recreational and caregiver respite program for kids and adults with disabilities. We’re also a sponsor of the 2024 Pineapple Gala, which benefits the thousands of individuals with special needs the camp serves each year. Jimmy Gibney, a courtesy clerk in Cedar Rapids, attended the camp as a child and now helps to sponsor a child to attend every year.
