The extent of damage to HVAC equipment during #hurricanes largely depends on the level of #flooding. Systems with components located on the ground, in crawl spaces, or basements are particularly vulnerable to water, flood, or storm surge damage. Potential water damages include: ? Dirt and debris stuck in condenser coil ?ns ? Damage to the compressor, electrical compartment, and fan motor ? Shifting of the condensing unit because of the force of the water, disrupting the copper line set and allowing contaminates to enter the refrigerant loop ? Corrosion and deterioration of metal components exposed to saltwater ? Attic-stored air handler or furnace control board, wires, capacitors, gas valve, blower, and other components damaged by wind-driven rain entering the structure ? Prematurely rusted or corroded sheet metal ductwork ? Sagging flex ductwork ? Swelling duct board ? Damaged wet duct insulation However, equipment stored in the attic may be vulnerable to wind-driven rain entering the structure through a damaged roof. The zones below outline the vulnerability of HVAC systems to water damage. For more insights into structural and electronic damages caused by hurricanes, download this eBook: https://bit.ly/3XWs9we
