This groundbreaking project featured a record-breaking #HorizontalDirectionalDrill (HDD), installing a 42-inch HDPE pipe 160 feet beneath the Newport News Shipping Channel—spanning over 3,200 feet! Facing complex geology and challenging conditions, our team implemented cutting-edge techniques like utilizing a custom pipe pusher to minimize pull forces and steel conductor casings to protect the environment. We emphasized the importance of proper equipment placement, regular inspections, and a well-planned sequence of events for successful rescues. Our team also practiced mock tunnel rescues ensuring everyone was prepared for real-world challenges. Joining our team was Mario from WW Clyde and Heather, a manager for The City of Fort Collins - Working Together to Build a Better Today! Heather was so impressed by the hands-on approach and thoroughness of our program she volunteered to assist in one of the tunnel rescue scenarios! Saturday was #LouisianaDay and Huxted Trenchless, a JAG Company would like to highlight a project we completed in 2022 in Avondale, Louisiana. Huxted Trenchless installed a 72-inch diameter, 700-foot long microtunnel which provided private, pressurized, utility conveyance under a combination of Union Pacific Railroad and Burlington North Santa Fe rail yard. An incredible 14 active railroad tracks, a rail yard, and a Louisiana Department of Transportation Highway were crossed with the tunnel installation.
