The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program is a paid summer internship and mentoring program for high schools juniors and seniors, and is sponsored by the American Fisheries Society (AFS). Selected students known as “Hutton Scholars,” are matched and mentored by a fisheries professional to enjoy a hands-on fisheries science experience in a marine and/or freshwater setting. Hutton Scholars who successfully complete the program receive a $4,000 scholarship as well as valuable work experience in an exciting and rewarding field. Our Vision: - The principle goal of the Hutton Program is to stimulate interest in careers in Fisheries science and management among groups underrepresented in the fisheries professions, including minorities and women. The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program Scholars: - Gain awareness of conservation issues and the importance of healthy aquatic systems - Participate in habitat protection, restoration and management projects - Develop an understanding of what being a fisheries biologist involves and of career opportunities in the field How can you support the Hutton Program? - Become a mentor - Become a host organization - Donate
