Recent research by Harvard Business School, in partnership with the Rutgers Center for Women in Business, highlights the biases disabled professionals face in workplace negotiations. Despite evidence against stereotypes, they are often seen as less competent or reliable. Disabled women, particularly those with invisible disabilities like bipolar disorder, face harsher penalties than men. For instance, women with bipolar disorder were rated lower in integrity and competence than men with identical behaviors. Visible disabilities, such as using a wheelchair, sometimes led to more positive perceptions—but mainly for men. Women in similar situations were often labeled as "nervous" or "in over their heads," revealing the compounded stigma of gender and disability. These biases limit careers and deny organizations the unique strengths disabled professionals offer, such as resilience and creativity. In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Season 4, Episode 8), this scene exposes a workplace truth: women often shoulder unseen work—emotional labor, logistics, and caregiving—that keeps everything running. Yet, they rarely receive the titles, credit, or pay to match their contributions. This reflects a broader issue of workplace sexism. Women are frequently seen as “support” rather than leaders, despite handling critical responsibilities. They’re expected to “hold it together” while men receive the recognition. It’s not just unfair—it’s a loss for everyone. What if we redefined leadership to value empathy, resilience, and collaboration? What if women were consistently given equal pay, recognition, and opportunities to hold the pen and the title? Workplace success is built on the invisible work women have always done—it’s time to make it visible and valued. SevenSix Agency's 2024 Influencer Pricing Report sheds light on critical pay inequities in the creator economy. Despite the industry's growth, stark pay gaps persist, especially for creators from marginalized backgrounds. Here are key takeaways: ?? Racial Pay Disparities: White influencers on Instagram Reels earn an average of £1,637.62, while Black influencers earn £1,080.41. South Asian influencers average £1,135.00, Southeast Asian influencers £700.63, and East Asian influencers £1,009.55. ?? Age Bias: Younger TikTok influencers (ages 18-39) earn up to 144% more than those over 40, with those over 50 facing significant barriers. ?? Disability Discrimination: Nearly 31% of influencers with disabilities report different treatment, limiting their opportunities for fair pay. This report is a call to action for brands and agencies to prioritize transparency and equity. AI chatbots are only as unbiased as the data they’re trained on—and that’s where the problem lies???? Bias in generative AI is real, and it’s more than just a glitch—it’s a reflection of the world around us. From gender stereotypes to racial discrimination, the data chatbots learn from is full of it. And if we're not careful, these biases get reinforced every time they interact with us?? So how do we fight back? It starts with awareness and action: ???Invest in end-user-centric chatbots: If you’re involved in the design process, think about empathy and feedback. Let users have a voice and improve the system. ???Become a savvy user: Spot biased language or insensitive responses? Report it! Change comes from speaking up. AI can help businesses thrive, but we have to ensure it works for everyone, equally. Let’s work together to combat bias in AI???? What steps do you think we can take to make AI more inclusive? Are AI models disrupting influencer culture for better or worse? While they’re revolutionizing advertising with unparalleled precision and creativity, they’re also raising pressing concerns. These digital models—crafted to perfection—set beauty standards no human can achieve, intensifying body image issues. Moreover, as they claim brand deals and endorsements, they challenge traditional ideas of authenticity and trust. How can audiences connect with influencers who don’t live, eat, or feel? This shift also threatens jobs for human models and influencers, reshaping an industry that has long thrived on relatability. AI’s rise in branding and advertising is unstoppable—but at what cost to creativity, inclusivity, and society’s values? Let’s reflect on what this means for the future. The film The Intern sheds light on ageism in the workplace, highlighting the value of diverse experiences and the importance of fostering an inclusive work culture that respects all age groups. Here are three lessons we can draw from the story of Ben, a 70-year-old intern, as he navigates the challenges and opportunities of a modern, fast-paced tech company: 1?? Experience is an Asset, Not an Expiry Date: Ben’s career wisdom and emotional intelligence show the irreplaceable value of seasoned professionals. When generations collaborate, everyone grows—mentorship goes both ways! 2?? The Importance of an Adequate Onboarding Process: The moment Ben struggles with his MacBook is a reminder that inclusive onboarding is essential. Tailoring processes to meet diverse needs sets employees of all ages up for success. 3?? Ageism limits Potential and Progress: Assumptions about age can block potential. When Jules sees past her biases, she discovers that every employee, regardless of age, has strengths that propel teams forward To overcome ageism, we must recognize the richness that all generations bring to the table and advocate for policies that foster truly inclusive spaces.
