The Huntley Park District just unwrapped the ultimate Christmas gift—a $384,500 OSLAD Grant for the renovation of Ol’ Timers Park! Move over Santa, because this year, the big guy delivering joy is the State of Illinois! With this generous funding, we'll be making our parks even more magical for the community. Whether you've been naughty or nice, everyone gets to enjoy the benefits of this amazing "gift" to Huntley. A HUGE thank-you to our holiday heroes, State Rep. Joe Sosnowski, State Senator Dave Syverson, and Huntley Village President Timothy J. Hoeft, for their support in making this possible. Recently Executive Director, Scott Crowe shared the experience of the Huntley Park District's use of the Perry Weather Lightning Detection System with the manufacturer of the system. We're very pleased this system is in place in Huntley to better inform our staff and customers of dangerous weather. Please check out the status of our Perry Weather locations on our website: https://lnkd.in/eNcdMu-j
Facing unreliable weather predictions that put visitor safety at risk, Scott M. Crowe, CPRE, Executive Director of Huntley Park District, made a game-changing switch to Perry Weather's real-time lightning detection system. Previously, Huntley Park District used a system called Thor Guard, which instead of detecting lightning, attempted to predict lightning by using sensor based equipment. This can lead to several issues: ? Sensors require frequent maintenance and cleaning. ? False alarms become a common occurrence. ? Failure to alert during thunderstorms with active lightning strikes. With Perry Weather, Huntley Park District was able to put their concerns to rest because of these key features that Perry Weather offers: ? Superior Accuracy: Perry Weather leverages the National Lightning Detection Agency (NLDN) operated by Vaisala, the premiere source for lightning data to provide the most accurate, real-time strike data. ? Automated Siren and Mobile Alerts: When lightning is detected in the radius of a Huntley Park facility, sirens will sound and a strobe light will go off, quickly alerting residents to incoming severe weather. Additionally, Perry Weather will send push notifications to staff, providing real-time updates on weather conditions for each location. ? Centralized Data Management: Perry Weather logs and stores all weather related data in one location, so people like Scott can have a birds eye view of all severe weather data in one place while also being able to refer back to older data to determine if policy revision is necessary based on historical trends. “To see from one location what’s going on at all 20+ of our facilities across our entire city – Perry Weather helps me and my department heads identify risks and be proactive to protect our people.” Check out their full customer story, located on the Perry Weather website and linked below in the comments to see the other ways Huntley Park District leverages the Perry Weather platform to ensure the safety of 14 parks, 5 facilities, and over 48,000 people.
