24-7, 365 days of the year, Hunterdon Helpline's First Assist hotline is your first call for help anytime for any need, emergency or crisis. Hunterdon Helpline began 48 years ago as a teen hotline. Now it answers calls from anyone about any need, providing the connection to appropriate programs and services throughout the community and beyond. Over these four decades, Helpline has evolved to where it is today: a 24-hour helpline answering the needs of at-risk populations trying to navigate the and find answers to their life challenges. In addition to First Assist, Helpline has a variety of programs and services to assist with non-emergent needs that address family, education, health and employment needs. Collaborating with other area organizations, government agencies and even for-profits, Helpline links these opportunities for wrap-around services to provide the most holistic solution to clients' challenges.

Do you have an hour or so a week to give to a homebound senior? Not a very big time commitment, but a huge impact on the senior and a great rewarding experience for you. We need Volunteer Shoppers to shop once a week for a person who physically cannot get to the grocery store. We have been told the program has saved their life by putting food in their pantry. They pay, you only do the legwork! We need Friendly Visitors for our seniors who rarely have social interaction. They are isolated from people and community news and just an hour visit a week can make a difference with both their physical and mental health. Play cards, do the crossword puzzle, read the news - whatever you and your matched "friend" enjoy. How to get started? Just call the office for more info and to register: 908-782-4357.
