Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming a class of engineering students from a local university to Hungerford & Terry for an exclusive look into the world of water treatment! During their visit, Dan, our lab technician, guided them through a demonstration of what we call a pilot lab. He explained how pilot studies are conducted, and why they are useful in optimizing water treatment solutions. Pilot plants are used to predict the performance of a full scale treatment system, allowing us provide the most effective solution specific to your needs. After the pilot demonstration, the students toured our assembly building, where they saw one of H&T's full scale treatment systems in production; bringing the engineering process full circle! A huge thank you to this class of soon to be engineers for the visit. #ThrowbackThursday 💡 Notice anything about the gravity filters in the photo below? Unlike today's steel tanks, these gravity filters were actually constructed out of wood! Before modern materials took over, wooden tanks were a common choice for water storage and distribution. Redwood, tidewater cypress, and red cypress were just some of the preferred types of lumber used to make water tanks. These tanks played a crucial role in H&T's early water treatment systems, and you may still be able to spot some wooden tanks to this day.
