Looking to donate food, hygiene, or cleaning supplies to the pantry and not sure where to start? Here are a couple of tips! We see about 25- 30 guests per shop time, so if you're able to purchase in "bulk", it's great to purchase many of the same item (ex 25+ tubes of toothpaste or 25+bags of rice) instead of a lot of different items. This ensures that more people can have access to that one item, instead of just one person getting one item. If you want to donate multiple items, consider donating items that go together--like peanut butter and jelly or oil and flour. This is just a nice way to make sure our guests get the items they need to make a complete meal. Every day, we work to ensure that the most vulnerable members of our community have the support they need, including the many incredible women who rely on our pantry. But here’s the reality: women are hit hardest by hunger. Research shows that women are 35% more likely to live in poverty than men. At Hunger Fighters, nearly 70% of our guests are women—mothers, caregivers, and individuals who often put their families’ needs before their own. Many skip meals so their children don’t have to. Others face disproportionate barriers to good-paying jobs while balancing caretaking responsibilities. We're offering tours during pantry day! Have you ever wondered what the inside of the pantry looks like or how we're set up? Now's your chance--drop in on Saturday for a behind the scenes look at HFO. We work hard to make sure the pantry is inviting and accessible to all who need it. We want everyone to feel welcome and we'd love to share that with the community. Drop in on Saturday for a tour and a chance to have all your HFO questions answered! We are so happy to have connected with the team at the @harmonyacademyrhs--a recovery high school located in Lake Oswego! Harmony Academy "provides a safe, sober, and supportive gold standard education for youth in recovery..." We were able to send over three months worth of hygiene products to the student at the school, giving them one less thing to worry about as they work towards their recovery goals. We are putting a lot of energy into the students here in Lake Oswego. According to the USDA, approximately, 14% of students in the LO school district are eligible for free/reduced lunch, which means they may need access to other basic items, like everyday hygiene supplies that aren't eligible through SNAP. We will keep supporting the most vulnerable in our community, from students to seniors! Hunger Fighters Oregon is hosting its first Pantry Day and community-wide food drive on March 15! We look forward to welcoming community members to the pantry to learn more about who we are and what we do! This is a great opportunity to gather food with your friends, family, or coworkers! Gather up your group donations, head to the pantry between 11 am and 2 pm, weigh your items, and learn more about the impact you are making! After you drop off your donation, take a tour of the pantry and chat with our staff and board members to learn more about what we're up to this year and other ways you can get involved and fight hunger in our community!
