Are YOU the stinky boss? ?? Don't ask yourself. Read the tests and imagine what your employees would say. Here's the good thing. "Stinking" isn't a permanent condition. But don't fall into the trap of test 11! You can't improve by simply "trying harder not to stink." You can change and improve! But until you do, you'll burn out your team and diminish organizational performance. ====== ?? I coach you to 2x results and 0x burnout. ?? Like content like this? Follow for more! It's free. ?? Does your boss stink? Do they pass the sniff test? Every boss has strengths and weaknesses. Let's not get carried away and think that because a boss, manager, or leader makes a mistake, we should all jump ship and write them off. I don't want my bosses and leaders to do that to me, and we shouldn't do that to them. But our lives are defined by trajectories—patterns of behavior. So, as you evaluate this list for your boss or yourself as a leader or manager, don't ask if these things have EVER been true. Instead, ask if they're OFTEN true. We're evaluating lifestyle, not mishaps. Here's my favorite grading scale for assessments like this one: 1?? Seldom true 2?? Sometimes true 3?? Often true If your manager (or you!) ranks in the 2s or 3s for more than a few of these tests, reach out! I'd love to help you and your team avoid burnout. ?? ======= ?? Weeds grow when we avoid the garden. Oof.

The Leadership Paradox: What We Avoid Becomes Our Reality ?? Ever skipped team development or values discussions to "save time" or "focus on real work?" I've seen it backfire countless times. When we neglect to cultivate our team's roots, we unknowingly create an ecosystem ripe for drama, confusion, and inefficiency. The very things we try to avoid—wasted time, lack of focus, poor results—become our daily reality. It's ironic: by sidestepping "fluffy" leadership work, we end up knee-deep in the mess we wanted to prevent. We trade short-term convenience for long-term chaos. ?? KEY IDEA: We chase what we flee: weeds grow when we avoid the garden. Break this cycle. Start cultivating your team today with these easy wins: ? Schedule weekly 15-minute values check-ins ? Define and discuss your team's purpose monthly ? Implement a peer recognition system tied to core values ? Dedicate time in meetings to share 'values in action' stories ? Create a team charter that outlines shared beliefs and behaviors Remember, strong teams don't happen by accident. They're cultivated intentionally. Want to get rid of the "weeds" of team drama? Don't let it alone! Invest in your team's cultural soil now and watch it yield a harvest of clarity, cohesion, and multiplying results. What's your experience? Have you seen this paradox play out in your workplace? ======= ?? I coach you to cultivate teams that multiply results, not drama. ?? Like content like this? Follow for more! It's free. ?? Don't be afraid to examine results—but know they don't indicate a plan for improvement. They tell you what's wrong, but don't provide the path forward. To produce new or multiplying results, you must first cultivate the "tree" by improving the ecosystem that supports it. Don't think you'll get multiplying fruit simply by tinkering with the fruit. No, you need to nurture the tree that produces it! Unless you work exclusively with robots, you need to cultivate and improve your team. The humans, the people in the company are your "tree." If you fail to cultivate their growth, well, don't expect different or better fruit to grow from the same ol' branch.

Examining results (fruit) can tell you if everything is healthy from the soil up, but it doesn't tell you how to improve it. Beliefs drive behaviors. ??

My life was changed when I had this "aha" moment. No lie. BELIEFS > VALUES > BEHAVIORS > RESULTS ?? It's straightforward, yet it's not how most of the world operates. The average business professional or company uses the exact opposite flowchart! Let me explain. Here's what most people, including myself, have been doing for years: 1?? Look at the RESULTS and identify what I want to improve. 2?? Choose the BEHAVIORS to implement to achieve those RESULTS. 3?? Adopt some VALUES that validate my desired BEHAVIORS. 4?? Subconsciously shift my BELIEFS to accommodate my BEHAVIORS. Do you see it? It's backward! ?? Consider the natural world around us. If you want good fruit, you start at the root—or, better yet, the soil itself! Transplanting a healthy coconut tree in Antarctica? Soil conditions matter! ?? No one expects to produce more or better fruit without first examining the soil and nurturing the roots. Yet we expect something different from the business world—and our own lives. Better fruit comes from better trees, with better roots, from better soil. Our lives and careers are much the same. How 'bout them apples? ?? ?? 60 SECOND SELF AUDIT: DON'T OVERTHINK IT. ? I say I'm values-driven, but what are my personal values? ? What beliefs informed those values? Do I even know? ? Would I say my daily behaviors align with what I value most? ? If nothing changes in my life, will I be happy with the end result? Here's the thing: Beliefs drive values, values drive behaviors, and behaviors produce results. There's no other way to go about it. Don't start by examining RESULTS or correcting BEHAVIORS. Don't head straight for VALUES as the fix-all. First, you must go to the soil: identify your core BELIEFS. ?? I know I'm not alone. I'd love to connect with you if you're trying to live out this "beliefs drive behaviors" ethos. Give me a shout below or send me a message! As always, Stay humble. Hang tough.

It's painful to watch professionals live out their careers with their beliefs (e.g., values) disconnected from their behaviors. For all the self-actualization, "believe and don't be afraid to fail" talk that dominates social media, you'd think we'd have fewer people who feel numb inside. Catchy quotes aren't the fix, success isn't the fix, hustle culture isn't the fix, and failing forward isn't the fix. Yet, we continue to look in all the wrong places. As humans, we have an innate desire to act upon our beliefs. When we intentionally suppress or ignore this practice, anxiety rises up in us. It can't be stopped. Our beliefs are supposed to connect with and guide our behaviors. When we cram our existence into work-me and life-me, we become fragile, fragmented, and frustrated. Our minds and hearts sense it. Something's broken. Something we're supposed to be doing is disconnected from the here and now. humbletough believes that work-you and life-you are the same person. We're here to help you on your journey to align your beliefs with your behaviors, find clarity, and rediscover joy.

I'm passionate about company values. But do you know what I'm even more excited about? ?? Personal values. I love helping people connect their beliefs with their behaviors. ?? Anxiety, frustration, fragility. Almost all of them stem from (or are compounded by) the pain that originates from living a fractured life. ?? What makes a fractured life? Believing and caring deeply about something and then suppressing it for one-third of your life within your career. ?? Here's the deal: Values aren't just marketing copy, and companies aren't the only ones who can claim "core values." ?? You have values, too! Certain attributes and beliefs guide you—or at least would guide you if they were allowed to flourish. ?? Trust me, the fix isn't a new job (well, not foundationally). It's in aligning your beliefs with your behaviors. Stop living a life on mute. ?? I'm here to help you find joy in everyday life and work. ?? As always, Stay humble. Hang tough. humbletough. ?? PS: I used too many emojis. I see that now. Oh well. Here's a thumbs-up emoji. I mean it in a totally non-passive-aggressive way. ??

There's no "work you" and "life you," there's only you. That's one of the fundamental errors that leads many to seek "work-life balance" and find neither life nor balance. This mindset produces fragmentation and compartmentalization. Further, it leads to the subtle myth that work is a necessary evil. You're created to glorify God—not just in one or two arenas of existence, but in all of life. That means that your work and your leisure, your career and your caregiving, your sweat and your art, are unified in a glorious and good purpose: To make much of Christ. Hate your job? Sure, look for a better fit—but know that this season is appointed for you to work as unto Christ. Underpaid or unemployed? Even as you labor to put food on the table, seek Christ as the forever-bread of heaven. The truth is this: Your work and your life are "balanced" in as much as your beliefs and behaviors are aligned with your eternal purpose: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Work isn't a curse. It's part of the mission. "Whatever?you?do,?work?heartily,?as?for?the?Lord?and?not?for?men, knowing?that?from?the?Lord? you?will?receive?the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." ~ Colossians 3:23-24 As always, Stay humble. Hang tough. humbletough. ??

"Let your graciousness be known to everyone." ~ Philippians 4:5 The word "graciousness" is often translated as "reasonableness" or "considerate spirit." These various expressions help us see the scope and weight and importance of this Biblical command. How are you doing? Are you known for a considerate, reasonable, gracious spirit? Is that how coworkers describe you? Are you today, striving to live out this reality with everyone you work alongside today? As always, Stay humble. Hang tough.
