The Humber plays a vital role as a strategic asset for UK Plc as Britain’s global gateway. It is home to the UK’s busiest ports complex, including the major ports of Hull, Goole, Immingham and Grimsby, together handling 17% of the nation’s trade. Humber Freeport is building on these strengths by stimulating investment and job creation, including through key projects to deliver a net zero future.

The Humber’s potential to generate 50 per cent of the UK’s renewable power needs. ?? Development of a hydrogen storage cluster with capacity to power two million UK homes for a year. ?? The creation of thousands of new green jobs and safeguarding of existing industrial roles. ?? Unlocking £15bn of private investment in energy-based projects. Yesterday the Humber Energy Board and our partners across the region took a powerful message of opportunity to Westminster. I had the privilege of addressing around 120 key stakeholders including Ministers and MPs and took the opportunity to remind everyone that if we want to meet UK climate targets and keep our country powered and fuelled, we must decarbonise the Humber. It’s a big task, but it would transform the region.?That’s because the opportunity isn’t just important to reduce our carbon footprint,?decarbonisation can have a transformative effect on the Humber’s economy, attracting investment, securing jobs in traditional forms of industry, driving up skills and educational opportunities and helping to lift the region’s significantly below average performance against key socio-demographic indices. And the impact would be felt beyond local growth, fuelling sectors and supply chains across the UK and contributing to national resilience in energy security and trade. Seeing our story resonate with so many influential people?gave me a renewed sense of optimism that the Humber's time has finally arrived. We will be next.?We will transform opportunity into reality and convert this remarkable, revolutionary, resourceful place into the cornerstone of Britain's plan to become a clean energy superpower. Sincere thanks to all attendees and supporters of everything we’re trying to deliver in the Humber.?It’s only by working together that we can transform this critical regional powerhouse into a world leading decarbonisation beacon.
