Every human has inherent worth and deserves safe and stable housing.

关于我们

We are a non-profit organization that is dedicated to defending the inherent worth of all human beings and their right to safe and stable housing. At the forefront of our mission “Humanizing Portland”, is the first initiative we are working on that addresses chronic homelessness in Portland, Oregon. The movement is based around a 45 minute documentary that delves into the authentic narratives of those experiencing homelessness and the reality of life for thousands of people within the Portland Community. “Humanizing Portland” documentary aims to be the catalyst for a citywide movement that brings a community of solidarity and prompts everyday Oregonians to become advocates for change. Through powerful storytelling, we hope to bring empathy back to the issue of homelessness and inspire action toward policy reform and demand systematic changes that will one day allow everyone to have a safe place to lay their head at night.

I was one single mother away from experiencing homelessness myself. So much of my story and how I grew up influence the work I do today. Beyond grateful for the village of mentors, coaches, teachers, and my family who helped me get here. Thankful for Anna Katayama and Fox 12 Oregon for highlighting my story. Shoutout to Lance Orton and CityTeam Portland for inspiring me in this work. Watch the full story here - https://lnkd.in/gj7fDD8q

This year has been one of the most important of my life. Last year I founded Humans for Housing - a nonprofit with the mission to uphold the inherent worth of all humans through storytelling, community engagement, and unrelenting advocacy for stable housing. Our team has been working tirelessly to produce and release a documentary about older adults (55+) who are entering homelessness. It's the fastest growing demographic of people entering homelessness across the country and our film is the first to tell that story. It's called No Place to Grow Old and it premieres one month from today. Earlier in August I took the leap and started full-time serving as Executive Director of Humans for Housing. I feel privileged and grateful to work with some of the best people I know to bring awareness to such an important issue. Our premiere for the film is on September 27th at 7:30pm at the Newmark Theatre in downtown Portland, OR. I hope you can make it, you're not going to want to miss it. We're catalyzing a movement to humanize our unhoused neighbors and advocate for long-term solutions. We can't do it without you. Watch it at noplacetogrowold.com If you were impacted by the trailer, would you be willing to share it and this post? I ask that you continue to follow our work as we prepare to launch this film. I want to thank the incredible people on our Humans For Housing team: Gabrielle Iem, David Schaupp, Madeline Iem, Sean Stewart, and Andrew Sain for working hard to help us get to this point. And those on our production team responsible for the beautiful images above: Ryan Tidrick, Isaac O'Farrell, Noah Wallace, and Seth Williams. A few weeks ago our production team at Humans for Housing wrapped up filming for our documentary telling the story of the fastest growing demographic of people falling into homelessness, older adults (55+). We've raised over $70K for the production of the film and we're now climbing our next mountain - the post-production and editing of the film. We're currently on track to release our 40-minute film with our world premiere this upcoming Fall - 2024. This film will humanize and help people understand the deeper root causes of how we got here. The stories we'll be sharing are compelling, powerful, and heart-breaking. Be on the lookout for what's to come. Go to humansforhousing.org and fill out our "sign up for updates form" at the bottom of our home page to stay in the loop!
