Throwback to when we hosted a plenary on weaving connections between the crises and forms of resistance that are shaping the global landscape for human rights at the HRFN Festival. The panel featured Cynthia Eyakuze from Equality Fund, Soheir Asaad from Rawa Fund and Funding Freedom, and Anna Kirey from RFSL, with Uma Mishra-Newbery from FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund Fund serving as moderator. The conversation articulated connections between struggles for liberation in Ukraine, Palestine, Sudan, and more. It was a much needed conversation to weave together anti-blackness, anti-gender ideology movements, and funder backlash towards those opposing genocide. ?? #ICYMI HRFN’s report explores the “trust gap” in human rights philanthropy—significant disparities in funding for groups in the Global South and East as compared to groups in the Global North. The report finds the trust gap across a range of funding decisions and practices: ?? from where organizations are based that are funded to lead human rights work, ?? to the size of the grants they receive,? ?? to the extent of flexibility they have to decide how to use the funding. ??Dig into the findings of the report:https://bit.ly/3rBEDfi #AdvancingHumanRights #HumanRightsFunding #BetterFundingData #TrustGapReport #Philanthropy #HumanRights #Data #Funding

?? Despite their leadership and impact in addressing environmental crises, women, gender-diverse groups, and Indigenous peoples remain underrepresented and underfunded. Without their active participation, any solution to the climate crises and current emergencies will fall short. #SeedsForHarvest, our latest report from Prospera International Network of Women's Funds, the Global Greengrants Fund, the Human Rights Funders Network (HRFN), and the Global Alliance For Green And Gender Action (GAGGA), provides a powerful understanding of the state of funding for gender, climate, and environmental justice work while underscores the imperative to galvanize political will and financial commitment to movements in the Global South and East. Through data analysis, case studies, and identifying trends and opportunities, our new publication signposts the progress made by those critical to the landscape. Most importantly, it emphasizes the enabling environment and heightened potential for the feminist philanthropic ecosystem to strengthen and collaborate at the intersection of gender, climate, and the environment, develop common narratives, and advance joint political framings. While direct funding is a critical aspect, so is bringing people together to generate greater opportunities for strategizing and building a collective analysis that provides a multiplicity of approaches to the challenges that climate emergencies hold for us all. ?? Today is a bleak day for democracy. In the wake of recent far-right electoral gains around the world, from the U.S. to Georgia to Argentina to the Netherlands, philanthropy has a role to play. At Human Rights Funders Network (HRFN), we are steadfast in our commitment to human rights and to organizing the funder community in deep solidarity with movements for justice. Many of our partners are already taking action to support those protecting democratic freedoms around the world. In today's reflections (https://lnkd.in/gNhDUYKZ), I share some of the ways we are coming together to share analysis, build global communities of heart, and take action. We want to take a moment to uplift the resistance of Georgian human rights movements that have been tirelessly fighting back against regressive legislation, including the recently passed Foreign Agents Law and Anti-LGBT Propaganda Law, and the alarming presidential election results from last week. ???? We urge funders to move resources to support their organizing! During #HRFNFestival, Georgian organizations led participants through site visits to deepen their understanding of local and regional histories of resistance.?? ?? From a feminist walking tour of Tbilisi, to a tour led by trans organizers, to discussions mapping Georgia’s political landscape of environmental and social justice issues, attendees had the opportunity to understand the diverse challenges impacting Tbilisi and Georgia, the powerful movements that already exist in the region, and how those movements operate even with little or limited funding. Thank you to the activists who introduced us to the powerful movement history of Tbilisi! ??Follow all of these organizations to learn how to support movements in Georgia: Women’s Fund in Georgia, Independent Group of Feminists, Dalan Fund, Mareike Wenzel, Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA)’, Young Greens of Georgia, Green Alternatives, Sovlab. ??Link to photos and more in our bio and website! ??https://bit.ly/4dcNjLi #Georgia #Caucasus #CentralAsia #CEECCNAregion #HRFNFestival #FundingFutures2024Festival #FFF2024 #Philanthropy #HumanRights #HumanRightsPhilanthropy #FundResistance #HumanRightsDefenders

???? New report: "Seeds for Harvest: Funding for Gender, Climate, and Environmental Justice." After the COVID pandemic, the onslaught of wars and genocides across the world, the rise of authoritarianism, acute polarization, and extreme changes to our climate systems, the world has transformed significantly in recent years. Although the climate crisis affects everyone, the effects are far from equal. Systematically marginalized groups located in the Global South and East are the most affected, suffering the burden of unsustainable patterns of production and consumption, diverse inequalities between countries, discrimination, and various forms of oppression. Against this backdrop, women, gender-diverse groups, and Indigenous peoples continue to organize and drive political change within their communities, countries, and regions. By developing and implementing strategies, alternatives, and solutions that bravely and boldly care for people and the planet, they lead the fight for the protection of their lands and territories and stand up to governments and corporations in defense of life—safeguarding land, oceans, biodiversity, communities, and natural resources. ? ?? Unfortunately, these groups are underrepresented ?and underfunded. In 2018, we published ‘Our Voices, Our Environment: The state of funding for women’s environmental action.’ The report showed that only 0.2% of all foundation grant dollars reached groups working at the intersection of women and the environment. ???? Five years later, in collaboration with the Global Greengrants Fund, Prospera International Network of Women's Funds , the Human Rights Funders Network (HRFN), and the Global Alliance For Green And Gender Action (GAGGA) we have published ‘Seeds for Harvest: Funding for Gender, Climate, and Environmental Justice.’ Grounded in a renewed sense of hope, resilience, and possibility, our latest report provides a powerful understanding of the state of funding for gender, climate, and environmental justice work while underscoring the significant need for and lack of funding. ??? Through data analysis, case studies, and the identification of trends and opportunities, we showcase the funding landscape for gender, environmental, and climate justice movements and provide valuable new insights into the current funding landscape. The report underscores the need to collectively pay attention to and drive resources to activists in countries and regions directly impacted and neglected. Remarkably, this is also the most effective, impactful, and sustainable way of responding to climate collapse—by building systems of resilience, accountability, and longevity from the ground up. ??
