RightsCon 2025 in Taipei was powerful! It was a critical space to discuss the evolving landscape of funding for human rights and technology. The U.S. foreign aid freeze is dismantling LGBTIQ rights worldwide. For over a decade, U.S. foreign assistance was a lifeline for LGBTIQ organizations, providing critical funding for advocacy, legal protection, health care, and economic empowerment. In January 2025, that funding was cut off, with 120 Outright grants suspended, programs around the globe shut down, and life-saving services lost. Our latest report, Defunding Freedom: Impacts of U.S. Foreign Aid Cuts on LGBTIQ People Worldwide, uncovers the devastating consequences of these cuts across 42 countries: ??
