We’re proud to welcome Humanity United as the newest member of the Trust, Accountability and Inclusion Collaborative. Together with their allies at the Seafood Working Group, they are urging the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to take urgent action to address labor abuses within the fishing industry. With over 128,000 fishers subjected to forced labor and more than 100,000 fatalities annually, the call for stronger protections and accountability is critical to preventing further exploitation in this sector. A tremendous victory for women garment workers in Indonesia and testament to the collective power of workers, supported by our partners at Global Labor Justice, Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA), and Worker Rights Consortium!
Courageous women workers in Indonesia have won a major victory in the fight against GVBH: The Central Java Agreement for Gender Justice.? The workers have been organizing with their unions at two factories: SPN, SPSI, and KASBI at PT Batang Apparel Indonesia and SPSI at PT Semarang Garment Indonesia. GLJ is proud to be one of the global labor partners, along with the Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) and Worker Rights Consortium, that supported the negotiations and are signatories to the Central Java Agreement for Gender Justice. This Agreement was created in response to a pattern of gender-based violence and harassment that was documented by the WRC in response to complaints from women workers. The program includes best practices from the?Dindigul Agreement to Eliminate Gender-based Violence and Harassment. The Java Agreement shows how the collective power of workers through their unions can bring about a sustainable pathway to end the abusive conditions in the factories with support from international labor organizations and brands. https://lnkd.in/eXTJyA5i

The ‘Doctors in Detention’ series from our partners at The Guardian and ARIJ Network looks at how Gaza's healthcare workers have faced an unprecedented onslaught since the start of the conflict, with hundreds killed, tortured or detained by Israeli forces. This sort of journalism is essential in informing civil society of the human cost of conflict, and holding global leaders to account. Read the articles investigating: ?? Our Interim Managing Director of Peacebuilding, Jesse Eaves, recently spoke at the Re-imagining the INGO (RINGO) Gathering, touching on the importance of resiliency, especially during these turbulent times. Watch the full session: https://lnkd.in/eEzJ__sQ?
What can funders do differently to shift more power and resources to local actors? In these turbulent times, the Resource Flows session was particularly insightful at the RINGO Gathering: Learn, Connect, Act. Jennie Richmond and David Winter led a discussion with Nana Afadzinu (PhD) and Jesse Eaves on resilience and how?we can use our existing knowledge and tools to create a more equitable and just system for global civil society. "The truth is that there is no better time for those concerned about development approaches that build local constituencies and local supporters to listen more closely to the voices—quiet, passionate, credible and deeply-rooted—of the emerging global field of community philanthropy." Amidst the chaos of aid cuts and an unknown future, local funding is more important now than ever before. This openDemocracy piece touches on why that is and highlights the work being done by our partners at the The Global Fund for Community Foundations.

Our Racial Justice and Equity (RJE) partners exemplify #BlackLove and a Black liberatory future by investing in community-led public safety, advocating for policies that prioritize dignity and economic empowerment, and meeting community needs through mutual aid. Recent highlights: ?? Co-leading the Clean Slate Initiative in Illinois, ensuring automated record relief to support employment, housing, and education opportunities. ?? Advocating for an equitable childcare system, ensuring workers receive a living wage and families have access to quality, affordable care. ?? Advancing One Fair Wage, eliminating sub-minimum wages for service industry workers - a system rooted in racial and gender disparities. ?? Empowering communities with Know Your Rights training and pushing for public safety solutions that align with community values. These efforts remind us that Black Love is liberation. It is in the fight for justice, dignity, and a future where all Black people thrive. How do you see Black Love manifesting in your community? #BlackFuturesMonth
