关于我们
Free, collaboratively generated maps are uniquely valuable to humanitarian work and economic development, especially in places where base map data is often missing, out of date, or rapidly changing. OpenStreetMap is an open data project founded to create a free and open map of the world, built primarily by volunteers surveying with pencil and paper, GPS units or by digitizing aerial imagery and finding and liberating existing public sources of geographic data. Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team [HOT], a US 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was launched in 2010 to promote and support the thousands of volunteers and dozens of local groups around the world that work to build OpenStreetMap, with an emphasis on humanitarian mapping to aid disaster relief, preparedness and economic development. In its role organizing crisis response mapping, HOT acts as a bridge between the OpenStreetMap community and traditional humanitarian responders like MSF, the Red Cross, UNOCHA as well as local groups and governments. To further the mission of OpenStreetMap, HOT sponsors and coordinates the development and hosting of several open source software tools specifically for the OpenStreetMap community. We also fund field training and data collection for existing and new OpenStreetMap groups, produce learning and training materials for people doing OpenStreetMap mapping and train skilled mapping coordinators to organize volunteer mappers' efforts in emergency response to crises and disasters. HOT sponsored teams work in countries around the world helping collect geographic data and training and learning from local communities to map information in OpenStreetMap that is important to them. Our goal is to help build self sustaining local groups of motivated and skilled mappers. We are dedicated to applying the principles of open source software and open data sharing towards humanitarian response and economic development and inclusiveness in all of our endeavors.

Less than a week ago, we asked for support mapping buildings in Southern Lebanon to create a comprehensive pre-conflict dataset, with only 37% of the project mapped and validated. Today, we've almost reached 100%! We are infinitely grateful to all the 58 contributors who heard our call and took some time to map this project. We are just a couple of tasks away from completion! More projects will be posted soon, so keep an eye open for them. Map here: https://buff.ly/3CJsXfI Learn more: https://buff.ly/3YWJMeF And share!

Do you think open community mapping and data are drivers for better urban climate action? Have you witnessed its power to address our current climate challenges in cities? Then you should join our launch event next week! Learn about this initiative to find and publish scientific evidence on the role of open community mapping for urban climate action and share your experiences so we can influence the IPCC's new special report on Climate Change and Cities. ?? ????A few observations from the #UNWorldDataForum in Medellín!??????? Last week, the beautiful city of Medellín, Colombia, welcomed the global data community for the?UN World Data Forum 2024 and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team was there! Here I am sharing a few take aways: ???Citizen-Generated Data (CGD) is Transformative! CGD took the spotlight, showing its power to fill critical gaps, amplify voices, and support decision-making. #OpenStreetMap remains a key tool for governments and societies across the world! How to integrate this in official systems and the level of confidence is part a much needed journey! ???Collaboration is Everything! No organization can tackle data challenges alone, and this call for different types of partnerships ????Mapping for Climate Resilience Our session on?Alternative Mapping Data for Resilience and Development?showcased incredible projects like?POMOTE in Medellín?and the?Dominican Republic’s Sargassum Mapping Pilot. These initiatives prove how community-driven mapping can address climate challenges, support disaster preparedness, and inform policy. ???Inclusivity is Non-Negotiable but we still have a journey ahead. Participatory mapping and inclusive geospatial governance ensure that data serves marginalized voices and addresses regional disparities. ???AI: A Tool, Not a Solution Artificial Intelligence was a recurring theme at the forum, Combining AI with human expertise and local insights ensures ethical and meaningful use of data for sustainable development. ???Local Knowledge is Key Medellín is a good example of how local expertise and data-driven innovation can transform challenges into opportunities. We are proud of supporting POMOTE, our local partners to have a voice in global debates. A HUGE thank you to the organizers Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística - DANE Colombia and partners Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data Oficina Nacional de Estadística (ONE) OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data, Dilek Fraisl, POMOTE among other amazing colleagues. Special thanks to the local organizers and everyone who visited our booth—your energy, curiosity, and ideas inspired us! We live in a world sharply divided between the data haves and have-nots. We are committed to changing this. ??????? #UNDataForum #CitizenScience #OpenMapping #AIForGood #CircularDevelopment #SDGs #DataForGood #OpenStreetMap
