Here’s what we’ve been up to: ?? Best Vegan Soup in the ‘Burgh – We brought the community together to celebrate delicious plant-based food and highlight compassionate dining. ?? Policy & Advocacy – Met with Councilperson Bob Charland to discuss exciting new legislation aimed at protecting our environment. ?? Animal Protection Efforts – Our Central PA State Director, Michele, traveled to Harrisburg to meet with representatives and push forward critical animal protection laws. ?? Innovative Partnerships – Kicked off a fundraising & marketing strategy project with Pitt students—we can’t wait to see their ideas take shape! ?? Sustainability in Action – Held an in-person Plastics Collaborative meeting and a fun networking happy hour to strengthen connections and drive action (pictured). ?? Big Win for PA Families & Their Companions! ?? We're thrilled to see increased media coverage about the passage of HB 1210, a vital step toward protecting animals and their human companions across Pennsylvania. This groundbreaking legislation allows companion animals to be included in protection-from-abuse orders, offering safety and peace of mind to families impacted by domestic violence. The photo shows our Executive Director, Natalie Ahwesh, speaking at the press conference in Harrisburg to support this critical bill. Her voice, alongside countless advocates, helped make this victory possible. After years of advocacy by Humane Action Pittsburgh and a coalition of animal welfare, law enforcement, and domestic violence advocates, the bill passed the state Senate on Nov. 13 (47-1) and now awaits Gov. Josh Shapiro’s signature. ?? Did you know? Studies show that 71% of pet-owning women in domestic violence shelters reported there abuser had threatened, harmed, or killed a pet. HB 1210 addresses this heartbreaking reality and ensures abusers can no longer use pets as tools of control. We are deeply grateful for Reps. Natalie Mihalek and Christina Sappey for championing this effort. ??
