Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to participate in the Animal Welfare Philanthropy Summit hosted by San Diego Humane Society. This inaugural event brought together 105 attendees and 60 organizations to share insights, strategies, and best practices for advancing animal welfare philanthropy. Our team engaged in thought-provoking discussions, valuable networking opportunities, and even participated in a panel conversation on Strategies for securing transformational gifts. We appreciate San Diego Humane Society for hosting such an impactful event and for fostering collaboration within our field. Take a look at some moments from the summit!

After a week of assessment, we’ve confirmed that half of the shelter was severely damaged due to the fire. Read the complete update at hssv.org/fire-relief To our staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly around the clock, and to every individual who stepped up to help, we cannot thank you enough. Here’s a few highlights of what we’ve accomplished together in the first week of recovery: ?? Reopened Adoptions: 100 animals found homes in the first week, with generous donors sponsoring adoption fees. ?? Relief Donations: We received 15 pallets of items from our Amazon Fire Relief Wish List and 300 bags of blankets and towels—thank you, friends! ?? Emergency Fostering: Our team jumped into action, and within half an hour of our plea for help, 30 families arrived, moving 70+ animals into foster homes within 48 hours. ???Unwavering Support: We received hundreds of messages poured in from our community, lifting spirits and inspiring action. We are so proud of our team for stepping forward, coming together, and leading the charge during this challenging time. On Monday, December 16, 2024 Humane Society Silicon Valley experienced a significant fire that damaged all medical facilities, our shelter operations offices, and several animal holding areas in the west wing of our building. We are incredibly grateful that no staff, volunteers, or animals were injured. All animals have been safely moved and are being cared for in temporary accommodations. Last week, HSSV President Kurt Krukenberg spoke about Mutual Rescue? and the power of the human-animal bond at WUF WORLD, where a diverse group of visionary leaders came together to support pet-friendly workplaces. This is such a great way for organizations to support their people - it boosts mental and physical health, increases productivity, and breaks down one of the most common barriers to adopting a pet.
