A week ago today was the Compassionate Feast, our annual fall gala and critical fundraiser, and we have some VERY good news ?? We celebrated with 340 attendees, the most ever. Our biggest silent auction ever raised over $53,000, with nearly 200 items donated by passionate animal lovers and local businesses throughout the community. We were delighted to recognize 3 special individuals with the annual Humie Awards: Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Susan Kornfield, Legislator of the Year Matt Koleszar, and Humane Youth Award Winner Clara Piekert. The event overall raised nearly $200,000 for the animals, a record-breaking total!!! Thank you to our sponsors, including Best of Show Sponsors PrimeStaff Services, LLC. and Virginia Sory-Brown. Magpie would like to introduce you all to one of our Intake Technicians, Kirsten! Our Intake department is dedicated to the support and care for animals brought in as strays or as surrenders. One of the most rewarding aspects of the work our Intake team does is help prevent surrenders. With services including food or medicine needs, medical appointments, or even temporary housing solutions, we can help people keep their pets. HSHV is proud to serve as a support pillar for many pet-owners in our community, and offers more support services than you may realize. (including her chewed up stuffed owl ??) Magpie is very friendly and both praise and food-driven, she also was very pleased with the housewarming gift of some cheese chunks. She is a wiggly gal who would love some more visitors, Magpie highly recommends you all visit her next time you are at the shelter!

Did you hear... YOU DID IT! Your votes helped Morris The 9Lives Cat pick Oscar as his V.P. (A solid choice, if we do say ??), which prompted Oscar's dad, Chuck, to name HSHV to get the $35,000 donation from 9 Lives. $35,000! Oscar is eager to assume office, though he says he's nervous about taking on such great responsibilities. ?? (You'll do great, Oscar ??) We are so thankful to YOU for voting ??, to Oscar and his dad for entering and winning and naming HSHV for the donation, and to 9 Lives for this most generous donation. ?? Thank you! ??

We like to say, "Love starts here," at HSHV. But really, it starts here. At today's special Election Day Camp PAWS, teacher Gary read "The President of the Jungle" to our campers. The book explains how elections work in a fun way (Spoiler alert: sloth wins!). After reading the book, the kids made posters for their candidate to be president of the shelter.
