Thank you Arcadia Capital for returning to sponsor the Compassionate Feast once again this year! This team is a small firm by design, bringing a personal approach with the knowledge and resources of a large firm -- and we can vouch for them being animal lovers! Thank you for giving back to your community and making a difference ??
关于我们
Love starts here. With you. Since 1896, the Humane Society of Huron Valley HSHV has been supporting the loving, responsible care animals in our community. We are an award-winning, no-kill shelter -- taking in thousands of unwanted, lost, stray, abandoned, and abused animals -- helping nearly 25,000 animals every year. In addition to pet adoption, we have a full-service low-cost high-quality veterinary clinic that serves the public and puts people and pets over profit, innovative programs that teach children compassio and help strugging seniors and pet owners care for their beloved companion animals, and a rescue and cruelty department that helps educate and advocate, thanks to supporters like you. HSHV is independently run (not associated with the Humane Society of the United States nor Michigan Humane), and we rely on the generosity of people like you to continue our mission. And we are incredibly grateful to our board of directors who volunteer their time and talents to govern us, and to our individual and corporate donors who help continue and expand our work.

Happy #thankyouthursday to our friends at Russell Video! The Compassionate Feast is about a month away, and as always, we have Dan Russell and his team to thank for donating their time and talents to make our event look and sound good! In fact, they are so incredible that last year during the Compassionate Feast we named Dan Russell as the recipient of our annual Community Humane Hero Award. A true animal lover, adopter, rescuer, and long-time supporter, he and his team have played a significant role in our event for the last 15+ years -- even producing our virtual events during the depths of the pandemic when we could not gather in person. We don't know what we would do without these wonderful folks. THANK YOU RUSSELL VIDEO for all you do for the animals -- it makes a BIG difference!

Thanksgiving came early over here! ?? Thank you PetSmart Charities for a 26,000lb pet food donation, and BIG thanks to Food Gatherers for generously donating crucial warehouse space to store this massive donation! The demand for our Bountiful Bowls pet food pantry has skyrocketed -- last year we handed out 64,000lbs of pet food to families in need, and this new donation helps us meet the ongoing needs of our community. We expect this large-scale dry food donation to sustain our pet food pantry for about six months ?? We continue to welcome donations of wet food, cat litter, and dry dog & cat food -- open bags are okay, as long as they are in the original packaging and within 2 months of the expiration date. Cameron, our Bountiful Bowls coordinator, and all of us at HSHV are grateful for our community's help in making this program possible!

Attorneys for Animals, Inc. is hosting Dogs Are People Too: A Four Legged Civil Rights Movement-Special Screening. Make sure to attend it on October 12.
Join us at Ann Arrbor's Michigan Theater for an entertaining, endearing film about our best friends that will get you thinking about our attitudes toward animals. The evening includes a screening of "Dogs Are People Too: A Four Legged Civil Rights Movement" -- which has not yet been released; a Q/A with filmmakers and film participants; and an "After-Glow" with refreshments and beverage ticket. According to the film-makers “In a country where 'man's best friend' is also legally speaking a piece of property with no more rights than a table or chair, we found that America's love for dogs is full of fascinating contradictions. These beloved four-legged friends/things were the perfect gateway drug to talking about our relationship with ALL animals." Guests include attorneys who have done something about these issues, and policy-makers/legislators who are thinking about changing the dynamic. Our co-host is the Animal Law Section, State Bar of Michigan.

What are the chances a lost bird would land in our CEO's backyard? AND be returned to her owner who helped not only tell the tale, but also help HSHV out by getting this unbelievable-but-true story out there? (H/T to the wonderful PR guru Tiff Neikart!)

The use of animals in entertainment often hides a harsh reality—many of these animals endure poor living conditions and suffer for the sake of human enjoyment. Remember, if something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts! Speak up and ask questions-- because your voice can make a difference. Before visiting any place that features animals for entertainment, do your research to ensure they truly prioritize animal well-being over profit. https://lnkd.in/guhKGaQ7
