This #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth, consider the importance of #respite for your #FamilyCaregiver. According to data from the National Core Indicators – Child Family Survey, 27% of respondents have unmet needs for respite, yet 89% of those who do get respite say services and supports have improved their ability to care for their child. These data show that respite is a key service for families and people with IDD. To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/e6AFthvb #NFCM #CaregivingAroundTheClock #CaregivingHappens #Respite

For nearly 50 years, we've been improving the systems that change lives.
关于我们
Since 1976, HSRI has worked to improve the systems that change lives. With a mission to advance community and person-centered service systems, the Massachusetts-based national nonprofit leads rigorous research that shapes the delivery of human services and supports. Our team of more than 70 employees provides research, evaluation, program implementation, data and statistical services, and technical assistance. We understand the complexity of human services landscapes, including the interrelated physical, social, behavioral, and environmental factors affecting individuals' and communities' health and wellbeing. Our work with federal and state agencies seeks to address the needs of underrepresented and marginalized populations in the areas of behavioral health, child and family welfare, housing and homelessness, population health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and aging and physical disabilities.

Food insecurity is a real concern for older adults. Food insecurity is estimated to affect 1 in 14 people ages 60 and older living in the U.S., according to the most current State of Senior Hunger. National Core Indicators – Aging & Disabilities explores the relationship between those who report they must skip meals due to financial concerns and the effect that has on social determinants of health and other quality-of-life outcomes. Today is #NationalRuralHealthDay. Join us and National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) to bring attention to the incredible efforts of rural health care providers, communities, organizations, state offices of rural health, and others dedicated to addressing the unique health care needs of rural America. Did you know? Nationally, 14% of the National Core Indicators – Aging & Disabilities respondents report living in rural and small-town communities. However, in several states, more than one-quarter of the sample live in small towns and rural communities. Data from the Research and Training Center on Disability in Rural Communities (RTC:Rural) consistently show higher rates of disability among people living in rural communities and inequitable access to services for people with disabilities in rural communities. Nov. 17-23 is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Last year’s National Core Indicators – Aging and Disabilities survey noted that 15% of respondents don’t have access to healthy foods when they want them—and 12% must skip meals due to financial worries. Join us and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) in celebrating #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth. These around-the-clock caregivers give their time, energy, and heart to caring for someone they love. According to a recent presentation by National Core Indicators – Aging & Disabilities, access to support for activities of daily living for older adults and adults with disabilities was best addressed by paid family whereas desired level of community engagement was best addressed by unpaid family. ?? We're wrapping up National Disability Employment Awareness Month with some person-centered “do’s and don’ts” from HSRI’s own Nicole LeBlanc, a self advocate: - DO have high expectations - DO presume competence - DON’T hold people to higher standards than those without disabilities - DON’T treat or refer to adults with disabilities as “kids” Read the blog post: https://lnkd.in/gJpSAzxq #NDEAM2024 #DisabilityEmployment #EmploymentforAll #InclusionWorks #DETAC

Champion employment supports! This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re providing actionable ideas to support people with disabilities in finding and succeeding at “good jobs for all.” For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), it is especially difficult to obtain competitive integrative employment (for more on this, check out https://ow.ly/Szxc50TVKvz). ?? Support state investments to enhance transition services to postsecondary programs for students with IDD. ?? Advocate for more work-based learning experiences in school-based transition programs. ?? Support vocational rehabilitation services! Data show that VR agencies placed 25% of people with IDD who had a case opened with VR in a stable job in their community within 1 year of starting services (Winsor, J., Butterworth, J., Migliore, A., et al. [2023], “State Data”). Let us know in the comments what action steps you’ve taken this month to support access to good jobs for people with disabilities! #NDEAM2024 #DisabilityEmployment #EmploymentforAll #InclusionWorks
