    During a recent gait analysis, we noticed a common issue: low vertical force from runners who focus more on matching treadmill speed than propelling themselves forward. We recommend incorporating a few simple drills to enhance your propulsive push while running ?? ?? Bounding: It’s as easy as jumping from one leg to the other while running, helping you learn to push force down into the ground instead of matching the treadmill’s speed. ?? Glute activation drills: These exercises help ensure you apply force directly downward, making your run more effective. ?? “Running on hot coals”: This means you should pick your feet off the ground faster than the treadmill can keep up with, emphasizing speed and power in each stride.

    ?? More water ≠ More water more sodium! ??♂? Many runners think they're high-sodium sweaters simply because they sweat a lot, but in reality, they were ONLY losing lots of water. When you're a high water-loss athlete, hydration is key — before, during, and after your run! ?? But remember, more water loss doesn’t always mean more sodium loss. Knowing your sodium loss rate as a runner is key to maintaining your performance - especially on longer runs.

    Do High School Athletes Need Performance Testing? ?? Before the season kicked off, Academy of Holy Angels soccer and football players visited the Human Powered Health Edina Performance Lab to identify key metrics related to power, endurance and explosiveness. We paired their initial results with continual on-campus tests to keep track of the athletes and ensure they maintain their health and performance levels. This investment allows the athletes and coaches to continue optimizing their training while uncovering strategies to reduce the risk of injury all season long.
