Sometimes, making big environmental impacts doesn't need to be complicated; it can be made easy by organizations who aren't afraid of doing the work. Our collaboration with AT&T, Texas Trees Foundation, and Arbor Day Foundation reminded us of that last week. By combining our respective expertise and resources, we were able to collect just over 586 pounds of e-waste from members of the Dallas community in just one afternoon. On top of that, the folks who were kind enough to bring their technology to donate got to walk away with a tree ??. Not a bad trade if you ask us! As we get into the holiday period of the year, take a moment to reflect on how easy it can be to come together with like minded organizations and people to create a positive impact in your community. Today is no ordinary day. It's both Indigenous People's Day AND International E-Waste Day, and we've just dropped a blog post that couldn't be more timely. Here’s a mind-bender: in the same states where you can’t buy alcohol on Indigenous reservations due to strict regulations, there are zero laws preventing dumping of electronic waste on these same lands. Remember that old flip phone you had in 2005? There’s a chance it’s sitting in a landfill on Indigenous land right now, slowly leaking toxic chemicals into the soil.? It sounds like the plot of a dystopian novel, but it’s the reality of e-waste disposal in America today.
