Hulcher Services is Born
In 1963, a chance conversation between a railroad official and Glenn Hulcher planted the idea that would change the railroad contractor industry. Glenn suggested that Hulcher could clear derailments more quickly and efficiently using the equipment in his father's pipe-laying company. Two months later Glenn got the chance to prove his claim when a derailment occurred nearby. Glenn was called when the railroad was unable to get their equipment to the derailment - the rest is history.

As Hulcher grew, Glenn and his team continually looked for new and innovated ways to serve the customers. Hulcher has innovated several pioneering ideas that improve efficiency, effectiveness and safety of railroad operations. An early and important innovation was using the sideboom on a derailment project in the 1960s making Hulcher the first railroad contractor to do so. The sideboom has been the heart and soul of our superior derailment response service ever since.
