With the abortion pill case going before the US Supreme Court today, here are some important reminders about mifepristone, the medication in question. ?? Mifepristone is extremely safe. ---In addition to a 20+ year track record of use in the US, the medication’s safety is documented in more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. ??Leading medical and scientific organizations recognize mifepristone as safe and effective including the American Medical Association and the American Congress of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG). It is also classified as an essential medicine by the World Health Organization. ??Mifepristone is also recommended by ACOG for use in miscarriage management. Left untreated, miscarriage puts people at risk for severe infection, infertility, or even death. ??The FDA conducted an in-depth review of the evidence before first approving mifepristone in 2000 and has conducted additional, thorough reviews of the evidence in the two decades since, each time finding the medication SAFE & EFFECTIVE. The FDA's medical and scientific experts should decide what medications are available, NOT politicians or judges. ??A ruling reimposing outdated restrictions on mifepristone ignores science, medicine, and what’s best for reproductive health, according to every reputable expert on the subject. ??If left standing by the Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit decision would eliminate telehealth availability in ALL 50 STATES, decimating access to a critical medication and drastically restricting people's freedom to access the care that best meets their needs. Facts matter. Science matters. Our rights to lifesaving medical care, bodily autonomy, and self-determination MATTER. We are watching this case closely, and whatever happens, we are committed to the fight for our freedom.

Protect #mifepristone and all forms of reproductive health care.

We were on the ground in Washington, DC today as the US Supreme Court heard arguments in a case challenging access to mifepristone, the commonly used medication abortion pill. This is the first abortion-related hearing since Roe v. Wade fell and if the court decides to reimpose outdated restrictions on this drug, which is also used in miscarriage management, the effects could be DEVASTATING. Regardless of the outcome, we will ALWAYS show up to stand alongside our partners in this fight to protect reproductive rights for all. Are you with us?

In response to yesterday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, “The Continued Assault on Reproductive Freedoms in a Post-Dobbs America.” Barb Collura, President and CEO of RESOLVE, who was in attendance at the hearing, shares this message: “We will remain gravely concerned about the future of IVF throughout the country until federal protections are in place. We must call on our congressional leaders to pass the Access to Family Building Act as soon as possible. But until this bill becomes law, it is incumbent on state leaders to make choices for their constituents that make it easier — not harder — for them to build their families.” Read our full statement regarding the hearing ?? https://lnkd.in/eFNRw7Qd

ASRM staff provided testimony at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the threats facing IVF and reproductive freedom yesterday. We’re so appreciative of Ms. Jamie Heard, Dr. Austin Dennard, and Pregnancy Justice President Lourdes A. Rivera for providing personal testimony in support of protecting IVF and essential reproductive health care. Everyone deserves the freedom to decide if, when, and how they build a family.
