关于我们

The Hudson River Watershed Alliance’s mission is to unite and empower communities to protect their local water resources. We work across the Hudson River watershed to support watershed groups, help communities work together on water issues, and communicate as a collective voice. Our vision is to connect people to the water in their communities and build a network of effective watershed stewards to ensure clean and abundant water today and into the future. We are a collaborative network of engaged, informed, and active community groups, organizations, municipalities, agencies, and individuals that work together to ensure a healthy and resilient Hudson River watershed. We lead educational, capacity-building, and networking events to inform and inspire communities to protect and restore our water resources. We seek to build effective water stewardship by giving people the tools, information, and resources they need to better manage their streams and tributaries.

  • Last Thursday, Kelly Mathews from the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON) presented an introduction to fiscal sponsorship at our monthly webinar series. If you missed the webinar, check out the recording on the Hudson River Watershed Alliance YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/e7YQUGB6 Kelly defined what fiscal sponsorship actually means, three different fiscal sponsorship models, the roles and responsibilities of a fiscal sponsor vs. a sponsored project, and considerations for applying for 501c3 tax exemption. This is valuable information for watershed groups, along with any organization or other entity that might be considering partnering with watershed groups, either as a fiscal sponsor or for a sponsored project like a grant. We're grateful to Kelly for being so generous with her time to take a little more time than originally planned to answer more specific questions that let us dive in a little deeper. This program was supported by funding from the Hudson River Estuary Program, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, with support from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund, in cooperation with NEIWPCC.

We’ll also hear the rationale for applying for 501c3 Tax Exempt status and the responsibilities that come with receiving it vs. working with a Fiscal Sponsor. This webinar will be beneficial for watershed groups, along with organizations or entities that are interested in partnering. Please come with your questions! • Join the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network for a Lunch & Learn virtual meeting this Friday! A Stormwater Solution in Hastings-on-Hudson Friday, March 7, 12-1 pm The Village of Hastings-on-Hudson was recently awarded $2.5 million through the NYS Green Resiliency Grant (GRG) Program for the construction of a detention pond and drainage bypass that will reduce peak flows and mitigate the persistent and destructive flooding experienced in a residential area. • Over the past week, we presented about our watershed planning work to students at Bard College and SUNY New Paltz. We shared our watershed characterization pilot project, lessons learned, and next steps to continue to support our local watershed group partners. The students asked fantastic questions, and through discussions afterward, provided valuable perspectives on the work. It's so inspiring to connect with students who are skilled and passionate!
