  • Career advice AND an insight into a Software Engineering Co-Op's Day in the Life in one?! ?? "Hi everyone! My name is Willa Welch, and I am a backend SWE co-op on the Data-Driven Content team here at HubSpot. When I joined HubSpot in July, I experienced the usual anxieties of entering a new environment, commonly known as imposter syndrome. Almost everybody has encountered it in some form. My time at HubSpot has taught me that imposter syndrome doesn't indicate a lack of belonging, contrary to what the word 'imposter' suggests. Imposter syndrome often arises in unfamiliar situations—like starting a new school, class, or job. Recognizing this has helped me understand that such feelings signify opportunities for extensive learning and growth. By embracing this perspective, imposter syndrome becomes a catalyst for developing a growth mindset rather than a source of intimidation. At HubSpot, this mindset is encouraged. Every question I ask is met with inspiration to learn more, and every challenge I've faced has provided both autonomy and support. Instead of letting the fear of not knowing something hold me back, I now see it as an opportunity for growth: I try to remember that when I don’t know something (yes it’s sometimes scary to admit it!) that asking the question and taking on the challenge of the unknown only leads me to grow. I am incredibly grateful for the sense of community and belonging my team has fostered. I’m proud to say that I wake up excited for work each morning and that I learn something valuable every day. HubSpot’s culture instills confidence and drive in employees to remain curious, motivated, and find belonging. Feeling imposter syndrome is completely normal! But when you feel it, try to remember that everyone has experienced it in some form to get where they are today, and maybe imposter syndrome isn’t such a scary thing after all!" How do you deal with Imposter Syndrome? Share it in the comments below to help others!

  • At HubSpot, we're all about #transparency. That's why we have our HubSpotter Sydney Lai sharing her story with you today about what's it really like working in #sales. "Hi everyone! My name is Sydney Lai and I’m currently an Associate Inbound Growth Specialist here at HubSpot. My journey at HubSpot started about a year ago when I joined as a Business Development Representative after graduating from college with a degree in Communication and Media at the University of Michigan. This past year has been a whirlwind in the best way possible! I’ve been promoted twice within the BDR Program and I’m gearing up to transition into an Account Executive role in our Small Business segment. The structure of this program is designed to introduce us to the world of sales and prepare us to take on a full-cycle sales role in the future. As a brand new BDR, it starts with the basics: how to identify a good fit company and contact, how to prospect, how to overcome objections, and more. Learning all of this can seem daunting, but what made it possible for me was failing forward. I remember making my very first cold call and it was hard. I didn’t book the meeting, so I reviewed the recording with my manager and broke everything down. To this day, I still have the feedback she provided stuck on sticky notes on my monitor. Always start with SMYKM (show me you know me). Be curious. The person asking the question is in control of the conversation. As Principal BDR, I was definitely more comfortable in the role. At this stage, I had pinpointed things that were working for me and was focused on implementing small (but important) changes to my day-to-day process. For example, I whipped up some personalized email templates and sequences to send out to prospects. This helped me free up more time to focus on making dials, while my emails would basically send on their own. Now that I’m an AIGS, my role itself is the same but there’s that added element of learning to become a successful rep. I’ve been working with my manager to learn how to run successful discovery calls, started to poke around my demo portal, and get into the motions of curating a good capacity. This last step of being a BDR at HubSpot has been so exciting and empowering as a young sales professional and I can’t wait for what’s to come next. All in all, I believe that the BDR Program at HubSpot is structured in a way to set us up for success and prepare us to become great reps in the future. With this being my first full-time job, I couldn’t be happier with the path that I’m on and all the growth opportunities that are within my reach." • More Sales team content coming your way ?? Today from our very own Austin Carpenter ?? "Hello! I’m Austin Carpenter, and I’m currently a Business Development Representative (BDR) at HubSpot, where I focus on connecting businesses with solutions that help them grow. I chose HubSpot for its incredible culture and commitment to employee development. Joining the company straight out of Stetson University, where I minored in Sales and competed on the Centurion Sales team, I was eager to apply what I learned in a real-world environment. From day one, I felt welcomed by my team; everyone has been incredibly approachable and willing to share their knowledge. As I just started my journey here, I found that I was well-prepared for building relationships and communicating effectively, thanks to my academic background and competition experience. However, I wasn’t as prepared for the fast-paced nature of the role—juggling multiple leads and adapting to different client needs can be challenging, but it’s also what makes the job exciting! A typical day for me involves engaging with potential clients, understanding their needs, and introducing them to HubSpot's tools that can make a real difference in their businesses. The learning curve has been steep, but my colleagues are always there to support me, making complex concepts much easier to grasp. What I love most about HubSpot is the work culture. The remote flexibility has been fantastic—I can balance my work responsibilities while enjoying my personal life. My team is spread across different locations, which adds a dynamic element to our collaboration. We’ve built strong relationships despite the distance, and I always look forward to our team meetings where we share ideas and strategies. Another standout aspect is the mentorship program. Each BDR is paired with a senior team member who acts as a mentor. My mentor has been invaluable, providing insights into my career development and helping me navigate the nuances of HubSpot's offerings. We have regular check-ins where I can seek feedback and discuss my progress, making me feel supported every step of the way. For students wishing to pursue a career in Sales but feeling uncertain, my advice would be to lean into every opportunity to practice your skills—whether through internships, competitions, or even part-time jobs. Sales is all about building relationships and understanding customer needs, so the more you engage with different people and scenarios, the better prepared you'll be. Don’t be afraid to reach out for mentorship; learning from those who’ve been in the field can provide invaluable insights. Working at HubSpot has been an amazing journey, filled with opportunities to learn and grow. I’m excited about the impact we’re making in the lives of our customers, and I can’t wait to see where this path leads me!" So what are you waiting for?! The team is hiring BDRs this second ?? Head to our career page to apply now! ??
