???The Global Leadership Forum 2024 brought together leaders, #HumphreyAlums, and U.S. government representatives in Washington, DC. The event was kicked off with an impactful address from Shaqir Totaj, Mayor of Prizren in Kosovo, who shared how the Humphrey Program empowered him with leadership skills and confidence to become mayor of the second-largest city in Kosovo. Fellows also heard from remarkable alumni like Darlene Pajarito from the Philippines and Asia Ashraf from Pakistan, who spoke about their journey as women leaders in male-dominated fields. Throughout the week, Humphrey Fellows engaged in meaningful discussion with one another, Department of State leaders, and program partners, addressing pressing global challenges and fostering collaboration and partnerships. Fellows heard from the Office of the Special Envoy Critical and Emerging Technology about the trends and challenges in artificial intelligence and biotechnology and discussed strategic engagement and policies on critical issues and topics with senior officials and the World Bank – from advocating for human rights and press freedom, tackling the climate change crisis and food insecurity, to countering illicit drug trafficking and promoting quality education and access. Fellows also participated in thematic policy sessions with key Department representatives, including the Special Envoy for Global Youth Issues, which focused on empowering the next generation of leaders, strengthening democratic resilience and institutions, and enhancing global partnerships for a free and open Indo-Pacific. The event wrapped with skill-building sessions that equipped Fellows with tools and resources for effective leadership – focusing on resilience, trauma-informed engagement, and grant opportunities for future collaboration.
