Hubbard House mourns the passing of Rita De Young, one of the Founders of Hubbard House. De Young not only helped establish Hubbard House as Florida’s first dedicated domestic violence center, but served as a founding Board Member and, from 1988-1997, as Executive Director/CEO. “More than 160,000 survivors of domestic violence and children here in our community have found safety through Hubbard House in the past 48 years, and a group of amazing women- including Rita De Young- made that possible,” says Hubbard House CEO Dr. Gail Patin. “We are forever grateful for the passion and commitment she had for supporting survivors, and for the legacy of community service she leaves.” While De Young served as the Executive Director/CEO of Hubbard House, she was instrumental in designing, funding, and building the shelter in which Hubbard House still serves survivors to this day. She also served to coordinate and organize domestic violence shelters and programs across Florida, while leading the statewide coalition.
