Happy 249th Birthday, United States Marine Corps! ???? Today, we honor the Marines who have dedicated themselves to serving our nation. We're proud to celebrate by looking back on a collaboration with the Marines of the III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) from Okinawa, Japan. In April, HU’s STORMWERX team and III MEF Marines worked side by side to tackle challenges in manufacturing systems, materials optimization, and remanufacturing. This impactful partnership, led by STORMWERX Director Larry (LJ) Holmes, empowers the Marines to address real-world equipment needs and enhance their operational capabilities.

What a fantastic place to work!!
Kicking-off Halloween Week at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. Werewolves terrorizing the Capital City? That's a job for Scooby and the gang. I've been under the weather for a couple of days and still don't have much of a voice, but glad my colleagues got me out of the office for a little adventure. Thanks Emily Mallis, MBA, Olivia Sorensen, Joe Tetreault and Jenny Cheng

Stormwerx Research Center and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology are so pleased to have had this event last week. The future in #CentralPA and the outlook for #manufacturing is certainly bright. Thank you to everyone who supported this important event for high schoolers, teachers, and our undergrads as well. And PS - if you have not toured HU and the ADMA facilities recently, you should! Comment or DM to get your tour booked.
When is a souvenir coin more than just a souvenir coin? This week, Harrisburg University's Advanced Manufacturing program hosted students from high schools around the region for our first "ADMA Day", a showcase of experiences intended to inspire and intrigue prospective HU Advanced Manufaturing students and demonstrate what the university's program offers. Among the swag each student receives is a souvenir coin, a token that will serve as a reminder of the day and the ADMA experience. But the coin is more than just a coin. HU's senior ADMA cohort helped design, make, and finish this coin. The students were given a mission statement: They had to create a keepsake object for publicity and marketing purposes which showcased HU's ADMA program. They were given a target date for delivery and metrics for success. They were also encouraged to use their knowledge of our available resources to create something memorable that demonstrated the ADMA program. The students used principles of Systems Engineering to create high level functional requirements and decompose those requirements to identify features of the finished product. HU's Advanced Manufacturing students settled on a "challenge coin" design featuring elements from Harrisburg University's logo and referenced the University's style guide to select key elements reflecting the unique branding of the university on the coin's obverse. On the reverse, the students worked with their undergraduate colleagues to create a QR code pointing to the ADMA program's website. They then investigated alternative designs and production methods before selecting a manufacturing technique (DLP 3D printing using LuxCreo printers) and selected a material (a fast-prototype UV-cured engineering resin) appropriate for the design constraints and finished aesthetics appropriate for the product. Our ADMA students were responsible for machine configuration, operation, and troubleshooting in production as they worked to meet the production schedule. The coin, once created, also needed to pass through post-processing and quality control to verify that all features were within acceptable standards and all requirements were met for the project. In the ADMA program, we talk a lot about the manufacturing lifecycle. We also demonstrate and experience it, not just in making products, but passing down the experiences and outcomes from current students to future students.
