In the aftermath of the October 7th attacks on Israel, Jewish students on American college campuses have been harassed, targeted, and vilified – one of these students was Hiltzik Strategies team member Tessa Veksler, former student body president at UC Santa Barbara, who faced an endless barrage of hate before standing up, maintaining her position despite attempts to remove her from office, and becoming a well-known advocate for the Jewish people. She is featured in the vital documentary “October 8,” directed by Wendy Sachs. “October 8” has just become the #1 documentary in movie theaters in America. The documentary unpacks the explosion of antisemitism on college campuses, on social media and in the streets of America in the aftermath of the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. But in early 2022, I decided to take the breezy newsletter we were sending out as an advertisement for our merch store and see if I could turn it into an actual business. So I formed a brand new LLC, and three years ago to the day, on March 1st, 2022, I hired Eliot Crist to be the CEO and the first full-time employee of Matthew Berry's Fantasy Life He must have thought I was crazy. I had boot strapped it to date and it had made some money, but nothing crazy. And though the email was well written, it was a list with not a massive subscriber base and whose entire purpose had been to sell t-shirts and hoodies. But for some reason, Eliot bought what I was pitching and we started to get to work. We are #stillclimbingthatmountan and have far to go but as we sit here, today, on the third anniversary of Eliot’s hiring and the start of Fantasy Life as we know it, I wanted to reflect on the journey so far. Under Eliot’s leadership, in the last three years, Fantasy Life has: * Gone from 1 to 23 full-time employees with close to 50 more free lancers, attracting top talent from incredible companies around the industry. * Increased revenue by at least 50% every single year and that includes 2025, where we are only two months into the year. * Increased newsletter subscribers to hundreds upon hundreds of thousands and built FantasyLife.com into a destination website that does millions upon millions of page views every month for fantasy players and sports bettors alike. *Launched a best in class premium tool set and partnered with NBC Sports on it, a partnership that continues to this day. *Produce over 25 hours of broadcast content weekly for some of the biggest media companies in the world, including LG Electronics North America SiriusXM Roku Fubo Amazon & more to come. *Continue to grow our social channels. On October 9th, 2023, I was fortunate to be introduced to the Neutra family by a mutual friend to see if I could be helpful to them as they faced the unknown of having their oldest son Omer kidnapped by Hamas. It has been an extraordinary honor for my Hiltzik Strategies team and I to provide Omer's parents Orna and Ronen and his brother Daniel with pro bono strategic communications and other personal and political counsel and support during this unspeakable ordeal. Remarkably, they consistently give others strength despite the toll this has taken on them. Omer Neutra,* born in October 2001 in New York City, is a U.S. citizen and Long Island resident who has been held hostage in Gaza by Hamas for over ten months. At 22, he is a vibrant individual who graduated from Solomon Schechter High School, was accepted into Binghamton University, but chose to spend a gap year in Israel and joined the IDF. Known for his leadership, sports achievements, and musical interests, Omer is a heroic IDF first responder who risked his life on October 7th to protect residential villages at the Gaza border. While previously private and apolitical, the Neutras have worked tirelessly over the past ten months traveling to the United States, Israel, and elsewhere in the world doing everything in their power to bring Omer home. We have thankfully received significant support from elected officials and others in New York, Washington D.C. and beyond, but we would be grateful for everyone's help in amplifying awareness about Omer – especially during this challenging week. On Monday, the Neutras and three other families approved the release of a Hamas video showing Omer and tank mates being captured (and others who were killed by the terrorists) https://lnkd.in/gevNFBw6 As Orna recently said, “We pray as though everything depends on God, but we act as though the outcome depends on our actions.” Let’s lead by her example, and bring Omer and the rest of the hostages home, now. It’s hard to fathom that we have passed 300 days since October 7th, when Long Island native Omer Neutra and the 239 others in Israel were taken hostage in Gaza. We have been privileged to know and have the chance to support Omer’s parents and brother and other Jewish and Muslim families from America and Israel to share their loved ones’ stories and continue to remind the world of their plight and the need to #bringthemhomenow. As we face even more uncertainty in the MIddle East, we hope and pray for a quick resolution of hostilities that ends Hamas’ reign of terror so that everyone in Israel and Gaza can move towards a peaceful resolution and a better life for everyone. ? https://lnkd.in/erNaVQde
