At the Second Annual HSI Equity Innovation Hub Convening, we reaffirmed our commitment to a future where everyone can truly thrive in STEAM. Under this year's theme, we focused on impact storytelling that amplifies student voices and uplifts our communities. By harnessing cutting-edge technology, we are not just engaging with the present but are actively shaping a new generation of innovators. We remain dedicated to breaking barriers and creating inclusive pathways that invite all to explore, create, and lead in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. We are honored to host Assemblywoman Luz Rivas for a conversation at our session, "Belonging in STEAM: STEM Industries",?during the 2nd Annual HSI Equity Innovation Hub Convening on May 2nd. Born in Los Angeles to an immigrant family, Luz Rivas has effectively combined her expertise in engineering and passion for education into a distinguished public service career. After earning her electrical engineering degree from MIT and a master's in education from Harvard, Luz worked as an electrical design engineer before founding DIY Girls, a nonprofit encouraging young girls to explore careers in science and technology. Elected to the California State Assembly in 2018, Luz has been a formidable advocate for underrepresented communities, championing policies that address homelessness, ensure universal school meals, foster youth civic engagement, and promote environmental justice.
