We are pleased to announce the upcoming HSA Media & Design Students' Mural Reveal Event on October 16th at 3:30 pm in collaboration with COPE NYC, a non-profit cultural institution. Our dedicated students have diligently crafted remarkable murals for the 630 Flushing building. Furthermore, our students have engaged in a collaborative effort with Brooklyn Fashion Week to conceptualize the runway and attire for their 6 pm fashion show on the same day. Our HSA Teen Dance Ensemble will also grace the fashion show with their performance, establishing a meaningful partnership with COPE NYC and Brooklyn Fashion Week. Changes are coming for me! Today, Russell Philanthropies is announcing that I am joining the firm as Co-President. ?It is the right time for me to leave he Metropolitan Opera. I joined the organization with goals: 1.?????Create a consistent and active space for Met Opera staff to communicate their concerns and insights. We accomplished that with the creation of the DEI Working Group, focus group meetings open to all staff and open-door access to meet with the CDO. 2.????Create a comprehensive ten-week paid internship program. We achieved that with both the hire of Alicia Kelley-Bah, recruited and hired three cohorts of Met Opera Summer Interns. Introducing young people from around the country and from various communities not often represented in arts administration to the Met. They learned about producing grand opera and broader areas of managing a performing arts organization. 3.????Create partnerships assisting the Met’s mission to expand access to opera. We created a one of kind relationship with incomparable Denyce Graves and Denyce Graves Foundation(“DGF”) and their program Shared Voices (“SV”).?The Shared Voices introduced the Met to its partnerships with #HistoricallyBlackCollegesUniversities and offered key mentors to be part of the training program, including Assistant General Manager Michael Heaston and Executive Director for Laffont Competition and Lindemann Young Artists Development Program Melissa Wegner.?This work also included working with s Bronx Arts Ensemble, Harlem Arts Alliance, Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) Schomburg Center, The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center and Asian Cultural Council. 4.???Create relationships with arts advocacy groups supporting communities under-represented in arts. We did this through relationships Black Orchestral Network, Black Administrators in Opera, Asian Opera Alliance, and Sphinx Organization. Richard Russell, Founder, Russell Philanthropies, commented, “We’re so excited to bring Marcia’s deep bench of professional experience into the firm and her experiences align perfectly with our belief in societal transformation through philanthropy. Alongside our new Partner, Teresa Lane, and Co-President, Rebecca Bowen, the firm is embracing a bold new mission — I’m grateful to have such a talented team at the helm.” It is bittersweet to leave the Met, I met wonderful colleagues, amazing performers, and reconnected with the arts that have been an integral part of my life since age 4 in ballet. ?It is time for a new chapter, and this is an amazing opportunity to join a truly mission-guided firm that views transformational philanthropy as a catalyst to build a more equitable world. I will bring all my life and work experiences to this firm and the role as Co-president. I am excited about this new chapter and look forward to working with many of you in new ways. ?
