?? Gen Z is now the second largest generation in our national workforce. In five years, they will be the largest. Some leaders are still trying to connect with this smart, agile and passionate group of young people. The default for most people is to denigrate and criticize the generations than come after theirs. The most progressive Boomer and Gen X leaders have already made the necessary mindset shifts to better engage people who may not come to work for the same reason they do. My favorite framework is the shift from The Golden Rule to The Platinum Rule. The Golden Rule ? Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. The Platinum Rule ? Today, the Hampton Roads Gen-Z Commission attended the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission board meeting, focusing on the outmigration our region is experiencing. We engaged in wonderful discussions with other young professional groups and the HRPDC about strategies to address this issue. It was a productive and insightful session!
