    9 interview RED FLAGS you should NEVER ignore: (Credit to Rob Dance for compiling these) 1) Unclear expectations If they can't clarify the role responsibilities, reporting structure, or what you're expected to achieve, you might be walking into a chaotic organization or being used to help sort out their internal mess. 2) Frivolous benefits Free parking. Pizza Fridays. Gym memberships. Overtime pay. Team socials. Remote/hybrid work. Espresso machine. Pension contributions. Paid annual leave. None of these are genuine 'benefits' in the modern workplace. 3) Future incentives Unless they give it to you in writing, or it's part of a structured progression plan, treat promises about promotions or comp increases with caution. 4) Never-ending interviews If you're applying for a top position, there may be a justification for putting you through the grind of multiple rounds of interviews and assessments. If you're not, they're probably unprepared and indecisive. 5) "We're looking for someone to hit the ground running" This means they are short-staffed, under pressure, and probably won't do much to onboard you and set you up for success. 6) Bait & switch If the position you’re interviewing for is different from the position you applied for, it may be a sign that they are about to lowball you. 7) "We're like a family" If you accept this, be prepared to be taken full advantage of. You will likely work for someone who has zero respect for your boundaries. 8) Vague or 'competitive' salary A salary advertised as a broad range (50k-100k) or 'competitive' could show a lack of serious thought into what makes for a fair compensation for the role. 9) Short Interview A 20-minute interview might help you breathe easy sooner. But it may mean they're itchy to fill the position, don't have a robust process, or don't care enough to ensure a good fit for both you and the team. What other red flags have you experienced?
