  • What keeps us from living our potential? When reading the reasons, they seem so trivial. ??Our own biases. When working with an #HR client who had previously been in a compensation & benefits position, she was a 90% job match to a "sales & technology" position. She immediately said, "I can't do that, everyone knows salespeople are pushy". Luckily, after much coaching and showing her how to customize the information, she identified a #UX training position (the back end of sales), working for a software (tech) company that helps their corporate clients (#HR) customize their employee health insurance choices. Imagine that.?? ??Listening to others limited beliefs about our abilities or opportunities. This rings true personally. When I was a Senior in college, I was offered 3 jobs in Washington, D.C. on Capitol Hill. My parents were against it. They didn't want me to move, as they believed I should stay in our hometown, get married and have kids. They tried everything to keep me from moving, but the Universe and my desire to expand and keep growing to my potential won out. ??We don't know what we don't know. Are you investing in learning more about your potential? "Self-discovery" is one thing, I'm talking about learning more about your #potential. What are your objective options, not based on what you (or others) think about you. If you're betting on the 5% of what you think you know about yourself, then you're betting on information from #1 and #2. Rinse. Repeat.

  • Ever hear of the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover"? Traditionally, the meaning of the expression refers to holding back on formulating your impression of someone after meeting them for the first time. It also has a dual meaning for hiring. Don't judge a "book" by its title. The title and book cover look impressive, we start to formulate (project) our own perceptions of what the book's about. Sometimes, we preview the Table of Contents, but most of the time, we flip through the pages, view a couple of chapter titles and make the decision to buy the book. Have you ever purchased a book, started to read it and then realized it wasn't what you thought? There are times when a job candidate's duties don't align with their job title. To keep yourself and the job candidate out of harms' way, don't buy the book (hire them), and then wait to take it home to start reading it. Check out YouTube University and LI; you can find a lot of free courses, inexpensive self-discovery assessment tools that may give you some Ah-Ha moments. ??Don't jump into "looking for a job". That's unconscious activity that will no serve your well. Take a pause, create a conscious strategy of #creatingyournext! ??If you're using ChatGPT to give you career change-guidance, remember, it's comparing your job duties, NOT YOUR POTENTIAL. News Flash: It's not about the job, it's about you. There are times when you need to do the self-reflection work. Reach within the depths of your beingness and ask, "What am I 'Called' to do now"?
