Congratulations to the Government of Bangladesh on the successful Phase 2 rollout of the HPV vaccine! We are happy to share a blog from our #HAPPIConsortium partner #PATH on the ongoing roll out of HPV vaccines in Bangladesh. With support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, PATH collaborated with the EPI of the Directorate General of Health Services of Bangladesh on this second phase of the HPV vaccine rollout alongside Gavi, WHO, and UNICEF. #CervicalCancerElimination #VaccinesWork

Today, on #CervicalCancerElimination Day of Action, we want to reflect on the global movement towards ending cervical cancer as a public health threat. In 2020, 194 countries committed to the goal of eliminating cervical cancer through the introduction of the HPV vaccine—a powerful tool in prevention. JSI, and our partner Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. are proud to support the Nigerian government in rolling out a national #HPV vaccination campaign. Thanks to this initiative, over 12 million girls have been vaccinated, empowering them to protect their health for the future! ?? Today, we honor the champions behind this success: ? Sheikh Dr. Ismail Zakariyya Al-Kashnawii, whose leadership in Katsina State has resulted in over 680,000 girls being vaccinated. His work proves the immense power of community-driven advocacy. ?? I recently had the privilege of co-facilitating Human Centered Design (HCD) workshops in Adamawa and Benue states?with the JSI, HPV Vaccine Acceleration Program Partners Initiative (HAPPI) Consortium team. Our goal?was to?understand the challenges faced by adolescent girls in accessing and receiving the HPV vaccine and to co-create meaningful, sustainable solutions with them and their caregivers. Working directly with adolescents—both in school and out of school—has been a powerful reminder of the importance of designing health interventions with?the beneficiaries, not just for?them. Adolescents are a unique and dynamic group, facing challenges that are often overlooked. Their voices, stories, and insights bring essential perspectives that can’t?be fully articulated otherwise. Hearing from them firsthand will allow us tailor HPV vaccine delivery in ways that?truly resonate with their realities and cultural contexts. This isn’t just a project for me; it’s part of a personal mission to improve the health of children and adolescents across Nigeria. Children and adolescents have so much potential and resilience, and I’m always honoured to contribute to interventions that help them thrive. This exercise has one again reminded?me of the power of human-centered design in making health interventions?impactful and lasting. Here’s to the incredible adolescents of Adamawa and Benue—and to a future where every young person has access to the health resources they need. Huge thanks to the incredible nimble, and resourceful team from JSI and all the passionate individuals working tirelessly to make HPV vaccination more accessible and equitable.
