ABC San Diego's Grit Leads to Greatness Tour stopped at WD Hall Elementary School! ?? Our Alumni Committee member, Samuel McBride of HPS Mechanical attended to connect with three classrooms in grades three and four. Along with sharing about his trade, he showed the students tools that he use daily and measured their height. We also shared our 2021 Local Craft Championships highlight video where it featured Samuel as a competitor and winner in plumbing. Thank you to Samuel for volunteering and for making a positive impact! Congratulations to Samuel McBride, Foreman at HPS Mechanical, Inc., on being named the 2024 Tradesperson of the Year in the ABC San Diego Construction Workforce Awards! Samuel, a graduate of the ABC San Diego (ABCSD) Plumbing Apprenticeship Program, has shown exceptional dedication to his craft. He not only excelled in the 2022 Local Craft Championships, earning first place in plumbing, but also made an impressive showing at the 2024 ABC National Craft Championships, where he and his team won the silver medal in the journeymen competition. In addition to his professional achievements, Samuel volunteers his time as the Vice-Chair of the ABCSD Alumni Committee and participates in community events to inspire and educate the next generation of tradespeople. Samuel is always willing to invest in the knowledge of his peers and himself. He goes into the office before work to review job site situations, strategies, and always staying ahead of the game. He also participates in the ABCSD Young Professionals Mentorship Program as a mentee. His team commend him for his high standards and commitment to excellence, making him a standout example of merit and dedication to the trade. Congratulations, Samuel, on this well-deserved honor! On March 13, 2024, Associated Builders and Contractors announced the honorees of its 2024 National Construction Workforce Awards, which includes Craft Instructor of the Year, Craft Professional of the Year and Young Professional of the Year at the ABC Convention 2024 in Orlando, Florida. We are happy to share that Joe Ahrens, San Diego General Superintendent, at HPS Mechanical, Inc. was named Craft Professional of the year! Joe is an alumnus of ABC San Diego (ABCSD)'s Plumbing Apprenticeship program. He plays a vital role in our chapter, as the 2024 Chair for our Membership Committee, a mentor for the ABCSD Young Professionals Mentorship Program, volunteers his time attending local schools to educate students on the career opportunities in construction, and is a mentor to other alumni a part of the HPS Mechanical team.
