Proclamation: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15, 2024) As Chair of the Hispanic Professionals in Parks and Recreation Organization, I am honored to acknowledge the significance of Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across the United States. From September 15 to October 15, we take this opportunity to reflect on the enduring legacy of our ancestors, the resilience of our people, and the dynamic impact we continue to make in every facet of American life, especially in the field of parks and recreation. This year's celebration holds a special meaning for our profession. The spaces we help create and manage—parks, recreation centers, natural areas and many more spaces that serve as gathering places where all cultures can unite, share stories, and celebrate diversity. Hispanic and Latino communities have long recognized the value of outdoor spaces, not only as places of recreation but also as environments that foster connections, promote health, and honor traditions. We are proud to see the growing representation of Hispanic professionals in parks and recreation. Our contributions, from grassroots programming to leadership roles, are shaping the future of public spaces and creating more inclusive, welcoming environments for all. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I encourage each of us to embrace this opportunity to honor our roots and recognize the importance of cultural representation in our work. Let us continue to break barriers, inspire future generations, and build a legacy that reflects the vibrancy of our heritage. I invite all of our colleagues and partners to join us in celebrating this month and to commit to furthering equity, inclusion, and access for Hispanic and Latino communities in parks and recreation. ?Juntos somos más fuertes! Together, we are stronger! Sincerely, Edwin J. Rivera, CPRP Chair, Hispanic Professionals in Parks and Recreation
