This week we had the pleasure of hosting a group of inspiring young girls from Renfrew High School at our Howden site in Renfrew, Scotland. Thelma Ejihkeme and Bruce Abernethy kicked things off with a great presentation on the various pathways into engineering and the vital role of STEM careers. Following the talk, Bruce and Ross Macleod led the group on a tour of our factory, showing how we design and manufacture cutting-edge products, including our compressors and turbo blowers, at our facility in Renfrew. It’s important to highlight the opportunities in STEM and encourage them to explore these dynamic and rewarding fields. A big thank you to the students for their enthusiasm and curiosity! For the third year running, Howden, A Chart Industries Company and Primary Engineer have joined forces to inspire the next generation of engineers through the Primary Engineer Leaders Award Competition in classrooms across Scotland! This engaging competition invites pupils aged 3-19 to answer the question, “If you were an engineer, what would you do?” – encouraging young minds to identify real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions. This initiative is free for every school and home-educated group in the UK, embedding a spirit of creative problem-solving at the heart of engineering education. One of the program’s highlights is connecting schools with engineering professionals to provide meaningful interactions. Ryan Gallagher, our Director of Engineering, participated by sharing insights in a pre-recorded video on his career journey and passion for engineering. To date, his video has reached over 2,010 pupils across Scotland! The DREBS is a compact rotating heat exchanger that continuously transfers exhaust gas energy to fresh air. Energy savings can be more than double compared to conventional recuperators. Its unique and optimized design allows a ROI of under 2 years. It can be used in all systems in which energy from the exhaust gas can be used to save energy. The heated air is then available as combustion air, for example, to increase the efficiency of the burner.
