The Howard University Center for Applied Data Science and Analytics (CADSA) was founded to coordinate and facilitate interdisciplinary programs in data science and data analytics; collaborate with other institutes and centers on the campus; expand and coordinate research funding; and develop research and educational linkages that will include internship and placement programs with sponsoring corporations and government agencies.

  • We are excited to welcome Aisha Jenkins to Howard University as a new professor in the Data Science department. Aisha Jenkins is a seasoned Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional, educator, and DEI practitioner with over 25 years of experience in Information Technology, specializing in GIS technology and tech equity. With 15 years dedicated to teaching and developing GIS-related training materials in both corporate and academic settings, Aisha is a recognized expert in GIS instruction, course development, and workshop facilitation. ? A native New Yorker, Aisha holds a B.S. in Biology from Penn State University and an M.S. in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Her GIS career began during her graduate studies, and she went on to distinguish herself at Esri as an Account Manager, Certified Instructor, Team Lead, and Senior Project Manager. These roles provided her with a deep understanding of training methodologies and course development processes. ? Aisha’s passion for GIS education led her to co-found the nonprofit NorthStar of GIS, where she currently serves as Education Lead. NorthStar of GIS is dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the geospatial sciences. In this role, Aisha produces and hosts the NorthStar GAZE podcast, an innovative platform that engages audiences through storytelling and GeoSTEM-focused discussions. ? As the founder of STFM Tech Equity Consulting, Aisha helps organizations integrate equity into their technology and educational practices. Her consulting work addresses systemic disparities, guiding institutions toward developing inclusive and equitable technological solutions. Committed to empowering underrepresented communities, she uses GIS technology, storytelling, and educational outreach to tackle social and environmental inequities.

  • We are excited to welcome Dr. Basheer Qolomany to Howard University as a new professor in the Data Science program! Dr. Basheer Qolomany earned his bachelor's?and master’s degrees in Computer Science from the University of Mosul, Iraq, in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He later earned both a master’s degree en route to the Ph.D. and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Western Michigan University (WMU), Kalamazoo, MI, USA, in 2018. Dr. Qolomany is an Assistant Professor at Howard University College of Medicine. As an interdisciplinary researcher, Dr. Qolomany possesses expertise in network science, evolutionary computation, and artificial intelligence (AI). He leverages AI technologies such as natural language processing, machine learning, deep learning, graph representation learning, swarm intelligence, and big data analytics to advance smart services, cybersecurity, and population health initiatives. Dr. Qolomany's research is driven by a passion for solving complex problems using large, heterogeneous data streams from diverse sources such as news feeds and social media, public health records, clinical health data, genome sequencing, IoT data, wearable data, and digital health tools. He aims to predict, detect, diagnose, and intervene in healthcare issues by integrating and analyzing these varied data sources, along with advancements in cybersecurity and smart services. Previously, Dr. Qolomany has gained broad academic experience through a variety of roles at various institutions, including the University of Cincinnati, the University of Nebraska, Kennesaw State University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Duhok." This Spring 2025 semester, he will be teaching DATA 801: Capstone Project course.

  • We are excited to welcome Dr.Ku to Howard University as a new professor in the Data Science department. Wai Lim Ku joins the Center of Applied Data Science and Analytics and the College of Medicine at Howard University as an assistant professor. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and specializes in computational biology, machine learning, and single-cell epigenetics. In the upcoming semester, Dr. Ku looks forward to teaching graduate courses on machine learning, Capstone projects, and Practicum Internships.
