When the going got "muddy," so to speak, for our horticulturist responsible for the Stormwater Wetlands recently, she reached out to Andy Newman, PWS, chief ecologist at The Earth Partners LP, and Ricci Simmons, conservation stewardship manager at the Galveston Bay Foundation, and they were happy to come and "nerd out" -- AKA collaborate -- with a fellow wetlands lover. Just one of the many ways the Garden celebrates the ways that nature connects us.

Axios Houston gave two of our top-notch horticulturists the opportunity to share some post-freeze plant-care tips with readers of its enewsletter today.

We are “buttoning up” best we can at Houston Botanic Garden. With pine straw, warming cables and what seems like miles of frost cloth, we are ready for what’s blowing down from our Northern neighbors. Thanks to a solid plan, a great team, and many volunteers, there is no last minute scurrying around. Now we wait….

The Garden is still in a gift-giving mood, and if you are looking for a unique venue for an upcoming event, you are in luck. If you book your event before Jan. 31, you will receive complimentary furniture from our inventory (that could add up to hundreds of dollars in savings). Our beautiful atmosphere, accommodating spaces, and experienced team combine to create gatherings that are always a hit, in any and every season. How will you dress up our white padded chairs and banquet-style round tables -- available at no extra charge for this limited-time offer -- to make your dream a picture-perfect reality. For more information on private rentals at Houston Botanic Garden or to fill out an event inquiry form, visit hbg.org/rentals. Want to get planning on your event right away? We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected to participate in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator Program, which helps organizations like ours invest in essential digital infrastructure. ----- Houston Botanic Garden will join a cohort of 200 nonprofit cultural organizations from across the U.S. and U.K. to improve essential digital infrastructure Today, Houston Botanic Garden announced that it has been selected to join the Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator Program. This initiative helps cultural organizations across the U.S. and U.K. to strengthen technology and management practices to improve operations, drive revenue, increase fundraising, engage broader audiences, and deliver dynamic programming. "In order to realize the great promise of this unique institution and its 132 acres, which are in the very early stages of significant development, the Garden will need to grow its digital infrastructure to provide connections that adapt to different audiences and attractions, educational offerings, and rich scientific research," said Katherine Sadler, Ed.D., deputy director of the Houston Botanic Garden. "The funding and consultation provided by Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator Grant will position the Garden to grow its technology as the garden features grow. Just as the Garden develops through a master garden plan, outlining paths and growing beds, so too will the digital plan created under this program allow the institution to share with visitors unique access to information about our collections of rare and distinctive plants, our programs, and our ecological achievements." Over the past three years, the Digital Accelerator Program has been a catalyst for strengthening nearly 150 cultural organizations across the U.S. and U.K. To date, the 40 institutions that were part of the first cohort cumulatively grew an additional $20 million in new revenue including through fundraising, reached over 1 million new audience members, and engaged more than 4,000 new artists and partners. Houston Botanic Garden is one of 200 nonprofit cultural organizations accepted into Bloomberg Philanthropies’ new Digital Accelerator Program cohort, spanning artistic disciplines and organization size in 52 U.S. cities and 28 U.K. cities.
