关于我们
The Houston Area Urban League, founded in 1968, has been a voice for poor and disadvantaged people of all races and has a long and distinguished record as an agency that offers tangible, lasting benefits to all members of the community without regard to age, sex, race, physical limitations, or ethnic background. It is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, community-based United Way agency, affiliated with the National Urban League. Implementation of programmatic activities began in October 1968 under the National Urban League’s convention structure. A 40-member Board of Directors Chaired by Morris Clark sets local agency direction and policy. Judson W. Robinson, III serves as President & Chief Executive Officer. Robinson, a business professional and former Houston City Councilman with more than 20 years of administrative and managerial leadership is the grandson of founding member Judson Robinson, Sr. The mission statement of the Houston Area Urban League is to enable African-American and other minorities to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights. The mission is best achieved through a two-pronged approach, advocacy—the promotion of equal access to Education, Housing, Economic Development, Workforce Development and Training and through direct service delivery—providing programs which address these priorities. Program services are provided by a staff comprised of professionals from a variety of backgrounds related to their respective program areas.

Black women have always been at the forefront of public health, breaking barriers and fighting for equitable care. Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler was the first Black woman to earn a medical degree in the U.S., providing care and health education to freed slaves after the Civil War. Dr. Dorothy Ferebee was faculty at Howard University and led the Mississippi Health Project, delivering medical care to thousands of underserved families during the 1930s. Henrietta Lacks’ unknowing contribution through HeLa cells revolutionized medical research, leading to breakthroughs in cancer treatments, vaccines, and more. Their legacies remind us to prioritize our health and build on their progress. Speak to your doctor about which vaccines are best for you and protect yourself —get vaccinated today. #AllInForMyHealth?

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Sylvester Turner, a steadfast leader, dedicated public servant, and fierce advocate for the people of Houston. Throughout his distinguished career—from the Texas House of Representatives to his transformative tenure as Mayor and most recently as a member of Congress—he remained committed to uplifting communities, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that every Houstonian had a voice. Congressman Turner’s impact on our city and beyond is immeasurable. His leadership, resilience, and unwavering dedication to progress have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. The Houston Area Urban League is grateful for his partnership, his advocacy, and his tireless work to create a stronger, more inclusive society. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and all those who were touched by his extraordinary life and service. His legacy will endure, and we will honor his memory by continuing the work to which he devoted his life. Mark Jacobs, Board Chair of the Houston Area Urban League

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, a true leader and advocate for the people. For decades, he stood alongside us, working to improve conditions and create opportunities for others. His charismatic spirit, intelligence, and unwavering joy made an impact that will never be forgotten. He passed doing what he loved best—serving. He was a city man, a statesman, and a country man, always dedicated to making life better for those around him. His commitment to service was unmatched, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Ashley, his family, and all who loved and respected him. We grieve this tremendous loss, but we will honor his life by continuing the work he so passionately championed. Rest in power, my friend. —?Judson Robinson III President & CEO, Houston Area Urban League
