Today, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks and Senator Christopher Cabaldon introduced AB 736 & SB 417, a $10 billion affordable housing bond that, if passed, will be on the November 2026 ballot. This is a chance to invest in proven solutions that will build and preserve 135,000 affordable homes, create housing for families with the greatest needs, and strengthen communities across the state. As Housing California’s Executive Director, Chione Flegal, said: "Too many Californians—especially people of color and low-income families—are being pushed out of their communities because they can’t afford rent, putting them at direct risk of homelessness. This bond is a welcome step toward building the affordable homes Californians need, bringing resources to millions of people struggling to make ends meet, and giving voters the power to take action on one of the state’s most urgent crises.” We know the scale of the crisis, but we also know how to solve it. This bond is a real opportunity to create lasting housing stability and shared prosperity. Join us in the fight. ?? Sign on as an official supporter: https://lnkd.in/gYYuefxC ?? We’ve been closely tracking the impacts of the LA fires, and the numbers are troubling. Before this disaster, LA had just 21 affordable homes for every 100 low-income families. For the 75,000+ people already experiencing homelessness, the wildfires compounded health risks like exposure to dangerous air. Now, with thousands of homes lost, it’s hard to imagine how renters, homeowners, and people experiencing homelessness will find the stability they deserve. Equity must be a pillar of rebuilding and recovery. If we stay the course and learn from previous disasters, we can create a future where no one is left behind.
