Giving families facing homelessness the opportunity to build a legacy for their families by providing a permanent home.

关于我们

Our Mission: Housing Families First gives families facing homelessness the opportunity to build a legacy for their families by providing a path to a permanent home. We carry out this mission through three core programs: Hilliard House, a short-term emergency shelter for families; Building Neighbors, a rapid re-housing program; and Bringing Families Home, a partnership program in which we help precariously housed students and their families in Chesterfield, Richmond, and Henrico move to permanent housing. ... Our Vision: A Richmond region where all children and their families have a safe place to call home. Housing Families First is a 501(c)3 organization with a 20-year track record of successfully helping families experiencing homelessness move to permanent homes.

  • ?? Collaboration in Action! ?? Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming fellow Greater Richmond Continuum of Care (CoC) partners to Housing Families First for an open discussion on the challenges and successes of securing permanent housing for our clients. From best practices to real-time problem-solving, we shared insights on navigating the housing landscape, building stronger landlord relationships, and ensuring families have the support they need to thrive in their new homes. Grateful for the collective wisdom in the room—because when we work together, we make housing happen! ??

I recently had the opportunity to organize an in-office volunteer activity and the team did not disappoint! We were able to donate 100 breakfast bags with motivational messages to children in need through Housing Families First in Richmond, VA. Employee volunteering not only enriches communities but also brings immense benefits to both individuals and organizations. When employees volunteer, they strengthen their sense of purpose, build team spirit, and develop skills that transcend their everyday tasks. But the impact doesn't stop there—companies that encourage volunteering foster a culture of giving back, enhance their brand reputation, and often see increased employee satisfaction and engagement. It’s a win-win for all involved! ????

  • ?? Meet the Artist: Stephen Jenkins (@gracist7) ?? We’re excited to feature Stephen Jenkins as a contributing artist for The Art of Housing 2025! ???? Stephen’s journey is one of faith, fashion, and heritage. Growing up in New York City with his single mother and seven siblings, he discovered the power of clothing to open doors and create opportunities. His brand, Gracist, is a celebration of favor, culture, and inclusivity, transcending race, gender, and socioeconomic background. Using vibrant West African fabrics, each piece in his collection reflects the rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions of the region, serving as a wearable reminder of God's grace. There is still time to join us on February 27, 2025, at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to bid on Stephen’s work in our silent auction and help support families on their journey to stable housing! ???
