A big thank you to our Public Safety Officer, Mercedes, for collaborating with the City of Danbury Fire Department to host an incredibly informative and important fire safety class. Special thanks to the Deputy Fire Marshal, Heather Anderson, and some of the amazing firefighters for taking the time to visit and for giving the kids an unforgettable experience touring the fire trucks. It’s partnerships like these that help keep our community safe and engaged. ??

Providing safe and affordable housing within the city of Danbury.
关于我们
The Housing Authority of the City of Danbury (HACD) was established in 1948 under the Connecticut General Statutes to provide decent, safe and sanitary housing to low-income and moderate income families. The Authority manages seven communities totaling approximately 900 apartment units. Of the seven communities, four are located in the downtown Danbury area, five of the communities are family developments and four are senior/disabled high rises. In addition to administering the "Public Housing" program, the Authority administers approximately 1100 Section 8 vouchers under its "Housing Choice Voucher" program. Each of our properties is a representative of people from many walks of life and the great diversity of the Greater Danbury area. Our staff are dedicated to creating and maintaining a positive environment for our residents.

This week, the Danbury Housing Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program, run by FSS Coordinator Amanda DeCarvalho, and the Danbury Police Department’s Community Service Division hosted ‘Trick-or-Treat on the Patio’ at the police station, welcoming our residents from Laurel Gardens, Eden Drive, and FSS participants with Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV). We’re incredibly grateful to the businesses, organizations, and volunteers throughout the Greater Danbury area who came together to make this event special for the children in our low-income housing communities. We hope to continue this tradition, which wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community partners. ‘Every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and valued in their community.’ A special shoutout to Devon Scanlon for donating 100 Chick-fil-A sandwiches! Thank you again to the following businesses, organizations, and volunteers who made this possible: Vanessa, owner of VGPeterson Photography, for capturing all these special moments for us; Danbury Police Deparntment; Danbury Police Cadets; Miss & Teen Danbury CT Academy; James Philipakos and his team at Newtown Savings Bank; Newbury Dental; Yazin Shilleh with DanburyWorks, Community Action; Happy Cheeks Face Painting; Alexis Koukos with Danbury Student and Business Connection (DSABC); Kariana Cicerone with The YMCA ; Chick-fil-A Restaurants; and Melissa Hannequin with Danbury Collective We also extend our thanks to some of Danbury’s community leaders for attending this wonderful event, including Roberto Alves, Farley Santos, and Julie Kushner.

Yesterday, we spent the day at Hatters Park, focusing on team building, enjoying great food, and sharing plenty of laughter. We played employee trivia, giving us the chance to learn more about one another, and had delicious food from the Artisan food truck. With games provided by Stevie D Entertainment, we kept the fun going. Taking time to connect with coworkers like this helps build teamwork and a sense of unity, which are essential for a strong, collaborative team. Days like these remind us of the importance of building relationships that go beyond work, creating a positive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Thank you to our Events Committee for arranging another great day for our team members!

Yesterday, we had lunch from Twins BBQ to show our appreciation for our hardworking staff who have been supporting our senior residents at Glen Apartments, especially as they continue to address the impact of recent flooding. It was also a great way to lift everyone's spirits as we go through new system software training. We are incredibly proud of our team here at HACD, who are dedicated to serving our residents and the community. This lunch was a way to recognize all that they do.

Recently we worked together with the Danbury Police Department and their Community Services Division to host a 'Coffee with a Cop' event for our senior residents. This created a valuable opportunity to foster connections, build relationships, and provide a relaxed setting for residents to ask questions and engage in meaningful conversations.

Yesterday, we celebrated our annual HACD Senior Picnic at Hatters Park—a day dedicated to our senior residents. The event was filled with laughter, fun, and memories that will last a lifetime for both residents, their families, and our staff. A big shoutout to LaCresia Johnson our former ROSS Coordinator and now Associate Property Manager, for doing an amazing job planning and executing this event from start to finish! We were also honored to have Mayor Roberto Alves and State Representative Farley Santos join us and spend time connecting with our residents. The festivities included food cooked and served by our staff, games, music, dancing, a clown, snow cones, cotton candy, balloon twisting, raffles, and so much more! We love hosting this event year after year and are always happy to create such a joyful and memorable day for our residents. City of Danbury

Today, our Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program coordinator Amanda D, held her quarterly Program Coordinating Committee meeting. The FSS program partners with organizations throughout the community to better serve our participants. By making these vital connections, we provide more resources and support to help our participants become more self-sufficient. What is the FSS program? The FSS program enables HUD-assisted families to increase their earned income and reduce their dependency on welfare assistance and rental subsidies. FSS is a voluntary program that helps participants increase their earnings and build financial capability and assets through two key features: A financial incentive for participants to increase their earnings in the form of an escrow savings account that grows as participants' earnings rise. Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting students from the Youth Academy for Latino Leaders, led by the Dominican Community Center. We had the opportunity to explain what affordable housing is and why it's a crisis in our community right now. Our goal was to introduce these bright young minds to the affordable housing crisis and inspire them to think about solutions. Thank you to our Acting Executive Director Devin for leading this discussion.
